I was curious if there are any polls asking Israelis what is more important for them — eliminating Hamas or returning hostages safely. Because it’s not clear to me that both goals are achievable, at least in short term. The question apparently proved difficult for many to answer, with 28 percent of respondents saying they could not say at all. Looks like Israeli leadership had made their choice that eliminating Hamas has to be the overriding priority. Ensuring safe return of hostages comes after (if even possible). And avoiding a massive humanitarian disaster in Gaza does not register as a responsibility to be concerned about (except, perhaps, it is a concern insofar as it impacts diplomatic relations with other countries).

I’ve said this at the beginning of this current battle that the hostages are likely dead or going to die. I was gladly proven wrong that several were saved but given they some have even been killed by IDF I still have a hard time seeing how the remaining ones will come Out of this alive. I will be happy to be wrong on this.
