I think OKC and to a much lesser extent the Jazz are in pretty enviable positions in terms of assets... as are the Rockets. I just think teams like OKC and the Jazz are rebuilding in a way that makes sense for their markets.

I totally agree with this, OKC has the ammunition to outbid any team for a star player.

There's one caveat - That star player has to be willing to go there. Stars generally choose their destination and if that guy says he doesn't want to go to OKC, it won't matter how many picks they have, that player will end up elsewhere.

Right now, they are a desirable destination because of the players on the team ..... but who the hell wants to commit to living there for several years? OKC, Utah & Milwaukee are probably the three worst cities in the NBA.
Once the current group hits UFA they will all likely play somewhere else.

I think Stone is a mediocre talent evaluator as well. All his top lotto picks were consensus picks. Also Stone got lucky with Cam Whitmore and CFers were clamouring for both Tari/Sengun weeks before the draft.

Tim McMahon was on Zach Lowe on Monday and pretty much said that Shams was flat wrong here.

He said his sources (presumably the Rockets since he has the Texas beat) said Houston inquired about Bridges, was told he was untouchable, and no terms were discussed or offer made.

 

They've BEEN A PART of the board since the beginning.
