https://theathletic.com/5361168/2024/03/22/shohei-ohtani-ippei-mizuhara-betting-scandal-questions/ Of course, it’s easy to see how commissioner Rob Manfred might determine that a ban on Ohtani simply for being naive would not be in the best interests of baseball. But at this point, the league is merely “looking into” the matter and “gathering information,” a spokesperson said. If Ohtani was simply paying off Mizuhara’s debts to an illegal bookmaker, he might have broken federal law, but would reside in more of a gray area with regard to Rule 21. Even if a subsequent federal investigation determined he placed bets with an illegal bookmaker, league precedent suggests he only would receive a fine. In 2015, the league fined Miami Marlins pitcher Jarred Cosart an undisclosed amount after determining he placed illegal sports bets. But because the league found Cosart did not bet on baseball, that was the extent of his penalty.
The Defense Rest? I don't believe an interpreter has authority sufficient to access $4.5M without Ohtani's involvement. But just to show how much we care, we will find some nobody who is alleged to have made a $10 bet with a friend and ban him for life.
Baseball has decided to give everyone involved immunity in exchange for not giving them the information they conveniently won't ask for. Protect Harmon Killebrew. What the FBi chooses to reveal will be more interesting as they will dig the data and records, but ultimately, they are trying to fry an even bigger fish than Ohtani, and I honestly don't think they want to paddle in that international rabbit hole.
Ohtani should have gone to a state with legal sports betting. Poor move on his part. Unless he bet on baseball, this is a nothing burger to me. My opinion of someone's moral character doesn't change depending on what state he did the action in.
Yamamoto was tipping his pitches, https://www.si.com/mlb/dodgers/news...tch-for-pitch-tipping-with-yoshinobu-yamamoto, like Yu Darvish was in the Dodgers/Astros world series.
Isn't Bregman known to be the champion of fantasy football... oh gawd no... Manfraud wouldn't... right?
That's with the assumption that they are telling the truth about what sports were bet on, which I think is a foolish assumption to make.
