Episode 54 of breathing orange fire is up. We talk Snells chancing of signing with Houston (briefly) only to have him sign with SF while we are still on air. Mostly though it’s a prospect episode.

I think Leon is well above average at all the outfield spots. His routes in center are not the best, but his speed, athleticism, ability to quickly close on balls and strong arm make him an asset defensively.

I am delighted to hear that. I have been wondering why he has continuously been bypassed and had just about concluded he had hit a wall or was disliked by staff or some such thing. Finding a new home for Julks should be a priority in the next month or two.

I think he's been bypassed because he hits like Kyle Schwarber minus the power. Too much swing and miss. His defense in the OF is good.

He was robbed of one yesterday. Nationals pulled it back in from over the wall.

Joey Loperfido should be on this team. It may be in mid April, but he should be on this team. I really think he's the solution to Right Field. Sign Bregs and let Tuck walk.

I can't see how Bielak makes the roster.

He definitely should make the team, but we shall see.

    Loperfido
    Dubon
    Caratini
    ?????
    ?????

How many position players do we normally carry?

I don't think Loperfido has the arm for RF, but he could be a great replacement for Abreu.

AAA for 2-3 months depending on how bench performs then super utility - 1g per week at each1B, 2B, CF, LF.

2025: 2g per week at 1B, and 1 each at 2b, LF, and CF.

    2026 starting 1B.

I don’t think the Astros profile him as a first baseman. He’d have been logging more time there this past year. Zero time there this spring. He’s an outfielder in their eyes.

    This makes sense.

    It's just head scratching though.

Alvarez has 5 more years of control
    Meyers has 4
    McCormick has 3
    Tucker has 2

There are Cabbage and Leon as lottery tickets.

    Corona and Melton have 6+
    Baez has 7+

And there are no first basemen in the system.

Why not play Loperfido at 1B?

I have an idea - extend Alex and move Dezenzo to first

He played 2B, CF and RF. Get as much defensive value out of his speed as you can.

You can always settle for having him at 1B, he's played there plenty since high school. If that's where the ABs are that's where he'll go.

Maybe they are taking the Morey route and develop the best players possible and trade them for what we need.

The reason for not playing Loperfido at first base is that first base is not open till 2026 and Loperfido is ready now. Do you think there is reason to believe Abreu is going somewhere?

No- but I also think there is good reason to believe if you want to maximize Abreu you should pencil him in for 120 games. 40 games at first base for loperfido could represent 1/3 of his playing time...
