So your telling me that Boras is using the Astros to up the price on Snell...color me surprised...anyways, did ya'll know that water is wet...
Most relievers are notoriously unreliable year to year. You're not getting anyone you can count on to not be terrible for a couple of million dollars. Those kinds of guys go for $8M+ and even then can suck (see Montero).
I think the Astros should pivot to trading for a guy like Luzardo or Bieber. Luzardo would be too expensive, but Bieber would likely be available for 3 mid-level prospects. Cleveland likes high ceiling pitching prospects that their high quality development team can improve and need offense, especially OF. Zack Cole, Jose Fleury, and Pedro Leon? He's not the same guy from 3 years ago, but he is healthy and can be a solid MOR guy that the Astros could possibly turn around. If that happens he's as good as Snell for a fraction of the price.
Why haven’t the angels signed him if he really wants to be an angel?they don’t have room for his salary after ohtani leaving?
I think it is more likely that Snell will sign with a team like the Giants who will give him a contract similar to that of Bellinger.
My deal was 6/150 would be my max offer. I’d probably go 3/85 with no opt outs. If he wants opt outs after year 1 and 2 then it’s 3/75 tops- but 2/50 is much less risky obviously.
Its only a play if another team raises their offer in response.... or the Astros end up bidding against themselves. And if either of the above happens, that's exactly what an agent is supposed to do for their players. Extract the best possible offer or get the most teams involved.
As far as I'm concerned until I see a legitimate source say the Astros are out, we still have a chance at Snell.
The '17 Astros had about 150 IP out of the pen by Sipp, Gustave, Hoyt, Guduan, Clippard, Dayan Diaz (who?), Liriano...I'm assuming the '98 and '19 teams (my 3 favorite Stros teams) had a similar collection of misfit nobodies throughout the season
