    Adding picks in a deep WR draft with a DT also targeted in that area makes sense.

    Smart move!! Deep wr, db and dt draft and with the money saved not having to pay a first rounder they can add more players.

    The cap hit for a first round pick would be a lot higher.

    By trading it down for a 2nd round pick, it should cost less (this is also a deep draft according to the experts, so a 2nd rounder should look to be a starter sooner rather than later + the Texans acquired next years 2nd round pick when the Vickings are expected to have a worse record than this year).

    So this should free up some money for additional FA signings, or to relieve the cap if it’s gotten too high.

    Not my favorite trade, but I do see a logic to it. Especially with the deep draft. There are guys in the 2nd round they really want, and the guys who look to be in the range of #23 pick are probably nothing special to the spot they’d be taking them.

    So now their picks look like this:
    • Round 2, Pick 42 (from MIN)
    • Round 2, Pick 59
    • Round 3, Pick 86 (from PHI)
    • Round 4, Pick 123 (from CLE)
    • Round 4, Pick 127
    • Round 6, Pick 188 (from MIN)
    • Round 7, Pick 238 (from NO)
    • Round 7, Pick 247
    Edit: (forgot to remove pick 232) I could definitely see us using one of the 4th rounders to move back into the 3rd round. There was also a huge gap between pick 4 - 127 and pick 7 - 238… this helps supplement that damage.

    Aren’t we also due a compensatory pick for Greenard? Vikings are helping our draft capital in more ways than one, if so.

    For the Texans, one of the realities for them in the draft in play is that there are going to be so many OTs and WRs taken early in the draft, pushing other positions down the board.

    Houston has its bookend tackles already, plus two building block WRs in Nico Collins and Tank Dell.

    They can land a player at a position of need at pick 42 that they might have considered higher anyways.

    You moved down 19 spots for your first pick, moved up 50 spots for your next pick AND added a 2nd rounder next year. That’s not bad

    23 = 760

    42 = 480

    188 = 16.2

    232 = 1

    So, 760 - 480 - 16.2 + 1 = 264.8

    232 is going to Minnesota.

    Comp pick for Greenard, if they were to get one, wouldn’t happen until next year’s draft.
    (I don’t know the whole comp pick formula. Players lost vs players gained?)

    I don't understand why they would do it now though. Why not wait til draft day and put pressure on some other teams well.

    U don’t know what you are talking about. There no one you had to have a 23. You pick u 2nd rounder that could be high because the vikings could be bad.

    Because this trade might not be there on draft night. This is pretty decent value — I think there’s a higher chance the Vikings find another team than us getting a ton more value by waiting. The Vikings clearly are trying to get into QB striking distance.

    The Vikings need the pick now to craft a package to move up. You are not getting a better package than a 2nd next year.
