Armstead as our top DT doesn’t really make me feel great given the likelihood of injury and snap count limitations, but not sure the alternative is any better. Top priority in the draft for sure.
I'm feeling the same way. I'd rather snag Nelson back and a Safety, or the best available Safety/CB left.
Some would rather draft a WR and spend money on the defense in FA. Apparently that's what Caserio is going to do.
He should have just kept Rankins then, even if it was for a million more than he wanted to pay. Now we will get a FA that's not as good and still dish out money for him.
Julian Blackman's still available for a safety. He had 88 tackles 65 (solo) and 4 INT last year. He's only 25.
I don’t think Collins and Rankins are irreplaceable, but we don’t need to be creating additional starting hole for ourselves heading into the draft. And we need to be in a position to take what the draft gives us instead of reaching for players to desperately fill positions. We were lined up well as CB and WR are deep positions in the draft. I’m not sure what the DT crop looks like but it just adds another need. I’m hoping we have a plan to fill the DT hole in FA….and scoop up one of these undervalued safeties in a cheap deal. There are still a bunch of teams with money to throw around; ain’t gonna be easy.
People act as if Nick can force people to take money. We don't know if Nick would have matched. We don't even know if Nick did match. We don't know if Rankins got the 13 million offer and went back to Nick to match it. I'm tired of people saying "He should have matched it!" When no one knows what happened. Take a guess where Rankins went to college then look where he is playing now.
Release Woods, sign Armstead, draft best receiver, win Super Bowl, make Amy Adams Strunk and Dallas cry...it's that easy...
