Your angry rant unraveled... (1) You are a trump supporter. You can pretend all you want... but own it.If you consider that someone "vilifying" you, perhaps you should rethink your positions and support. btw, calling me "far left" doesn't make me mad at all. (2) https://apnews.com/article/abortion-travel-ban-roads-west-texas-3997304c4156f131ee90bb1363735ba3 (3). You brought up the term "abortion traffickers". Then claim you would take a wife or daughter out of state to get an abortion. Then complain when people you call you out on it.
You are right, this isn't Iran. The only extremist garbage you should be worrying about are the bills being proposed by GOP politicians to make abortion a homicide. It's only fear mongering when it's not true, like Trump saying he's a victim of election interference. Another example of fear mongering is his claim that illegals are poisoning the blood of this country. Another example would be saying LGBQT are pedophiles. Another example would be saying Democrats want to take away your guns. Another example would be saying the DOJ, FBI, Biden, and Democrats are all corrupt, because Trump shouldn't be investigated for anything he's done illegally. Don't confuse fear mongering with facts. That's what makes the fear mongers enjoy spreading absurd twisted forms of reality to get you into their spell.
You said you would do that exact thing with your wife or daughter if the state didn't allow abortions, and they were raped and didn't want to keep the baby.
Would you then say that these laws are meaningless virtue signaling on the part of these counties? Why then would that only apply to abortion?
I remember when people cared about being embarrassed, and posted less in response. Yet another thing Trump has ruined.
I’m glad we finally found a topic that has space ghost as animated as he is about his support for Vladimir Putin…. Defending the GOP’s overturning of a women’s right to choose. But totally not a Trump supporter… just a good ole fashion truth teller who is above the politics and morally pure.
This study, or at least the reporting of it (since I can't read the full study) is implicitly suggesting there has been an increase in rape-related pregnancies since Roe was repealed, and Texas, and other states, enacted abortion bans. Yet, from the ABC news article: Researchers said they could not analyze trends over time, so it's not clear if the estimates represent an increase from previous years. if you can't provide prior data, we have no way of knowing whether the reports conclusions are accurate, rendering the entire debate moot. Further, if the number of rape related pregnancies has increased, you'd have to also accept that the repeal of Roe has somehow resulted in an increase of rape itself, at least in these 15 states. this seem implausible. but even if we accept that rape has increased in the past 18 months, might there be some other recent cultural phenomenon that could be causing these increases, particularly in Texas? bottom line, the study, and the reporting thereof, is likely fatally flawed, does not support its conclusion, and ignored other relevant factors. /thread
It's mind blowing watching right wingers pivoting to the "has rape increased or not argument" instead of the fact women who are raped are being forced to carry their rapists kids. It doesn't matter if that number is 1 or 14k. It's disgusting and immoral that it's even happening. Everyone has lost their damn minds in America. I'm so happy I'm out of the country. No other developed country is forcing hundreds of thousands of raped teenagers to carry babies. Insanity
Where does the OP indicate that there is an increase (or decrease, for that matter). Here's a link to the JAMA study: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/ja...ign=ftm_links&utm_content=tfl&utm_term=012424 And here is the Scientific American reporting on the study: https://www.scientificamerican.com/...ith-a-total-abortion-ban-new-study-estimates/ The study compares rapes in Texas to other states. It clearly says it doesn't analyze over time.
if it doesn't analyze over time then we have no way of knowing what these numbers represent, merely that they exist.
OMG, that is disgusting. People like that should NEVER be given any type of custody whatsoever. How is that even possible? This part of the article disgusts me..... According to Ms Kiessling, Mirarsolo forcibly raped and threatened to kill her client in September 2008. Mirasolo was found guilty of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and sentenced to one year in jail, but only served six and half months. In March 2010, Mirasolo committed another offence on a victim aged between 13 and 15 years olf which he served four years in prison for. Pedophiles should be locked away without a key for raping a child. They should be given life without parole. They are sick in the head, and don't change. Allowing custody of some pedophile rapist is absolute criminal in my eyes. That's insane! They have no right to even be near children.
Yes and the numbers that exist indicate that in Texas there are a high number of rapes that result in pregnancies.
No. This is quite basic. Tens of thousands of rape victims become pregnant each year. After the overturning of Roe, Republicans in many states are causing further pain to these victims by forcing them to carry to term.
Beside @basso's disregard for rape victims... What's crazy about this story is that the pedophile rapist spent only 6 months in one case for raping a 12-year-old child and 4 years in another. It should have been a life sentence. Oh, and he was awarded joint custody. WTF.
Your red herring and straw man is noted. Before Roe was repealed, girls and women who became pregnant from rape had the constitutional right to an abortion. They no longer have that right because Republicans now force them to carry the pregnancy to term.
I think the overall point is that even if Roe was reinstated, the prior status quo wasn't pretty either. Rape related pregnancies is a lightning rod and symptom to the actual problem, which is a culture that still buries rape allegations and marginalize rape victims. I would agree that combining the abortion debate with unambiguously immoral rapes happening across America isn't productive to overall social progress because it catalyzes paralysis and gridlock. I get that some male rights advocates will complain rape accusations can also be weaponized, but that's also part of the overall problem that we're unwilling as a society to sit down and hash out a legal and enforcement process to make this less personal, complicated, and emotionally charged.
