    Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for “Twisters,” what they dub a “current-day chapter of the 1996 blockbuster ‘Twister'”.

    Daisy Edgar-Jones stars as Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years who now studies storm patterns on screens safely in New York City.

    She is lured back to the open plains by her friend, Javi (Anthony Ramos) to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. There, she crosses paths with Tyler Owens (Glenn Powell), the charming and reckless social-media superstar who thrives on posting his storm-chasing adventures with his raucous crew, the more dangerous the better.

    As storm season intensifies, terrifying phenomena never seen before are unleashed, and Kate, Tyler and their competing teams find themselves squarely in the paths of multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma in the fight of their lives.

    Brandon Perea, Sasha Lane, Daryl McCormack, Kiernan Shipka, Nik Dodani and Maura Tierney co-star. Lee Isaac Chung directs from a script by Mark L. Smith, whilst Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley produce.

    The film be distributed by Universal Pictures domestically and by Warner Bros. Pictures internationally.

    “Twisters” releases in cinemas on July 19th.

    When I saw this yesterday, I was not sure about it, the original was so good...........why re-do it? I will probably see it when it streams

    From what I've read it's not a straight remake, spiritual sequel with only passing connections to the original. Trailer though felt very familiar to the original film...

    I'll probably see it and enjoy it for what it is. I like Glenn Powell in Hidden Figures and Top Gun Maverick. I think he will make the reckless socila media star a more interesting character than Westley, though I've liked him in other roles, did for the corporate stooge.

    homie is building a pretty good resume. I like him too. Dollar store Matthew McConaughey. He is good in that one recent cheesy Rom Com "Anyone but You'.

    So I saw the Twisters trailer during the Super Bowl, and in my defense, I’m old, I didn’t have on my glasses at the time, and it was the Super Bowl…….I may have had a few cocktails. But I watched that trailer the whole time thinking that dude WAS Tom Cruise. I’m thinking….why are they remaking Twister!?! But if Tom Cruise is the lead, you know it’s gonna be bad ass! The next day……sober…..but again without my glasses, I’m talking it up with my wife, son and nephew and we watch the whole trailer again. I didn’t realize it wasn’t TC until they told me……after we watched the whole thing. Getting old sucks.

    Universal should tie this in with Godzilla and Kong. The twisters are a result of some shenanigans going on in the hollow earth or something. 10/10 would pitch that film.

    Totally forgot how many minor characters are fairly known actors. Like Jerry from ER. The skinny translator soldier Saving Private Ryan, Connor from Succession, Philip semor Hoffman, prob a lot more I haven’t noticed yet
