Xavier McKinney? If so, I like all of that. I think you're right about Barkley... ordinarily, I think the Texans would be out on expensive RB. BUT, rookie QB contract + lots of cap room + 3 year deal so he is out when CJ is getting his new deal + quickly makes run game much better (and hence the offense) = let's ride!. Also, don't know about draft prospects yet. BUT, Johnny Wilson is a just a freak human being / WR prospect. I kind of don't want him to run well at the combine because he would vault into low 1st / early 2nd discussion. I want him in the Battle Red!
I'm 100% sure they talked about playing together during the ProBowl. He was even teammates with Sting at LSU if I'm not mistaken and they workout during the offseason. Queen/Harris can be our Warner/Greenlaw or Willis/Bowman
We have lots of cap room because we have lots of free agents. We have almost none if we re-sign our guys. Also, you can ignore rookie qb contract when the left tackle is getting paid 35 million.
I'd be interested in a flyer on Chase Claypool... size and speed... bad hands... notre dame... Reminds me of Fuller... Just a back end upgrade over Hutch or Metchie... maybe Brown replacement if he gets expensive... I would think something like 2 years 5 million get it done... he's still 25 and 2 years removed from 14+ per catch in Pitt...
I don't know about that, say they sign Rankins and Cashman and their deals take up 17 mil on the cap. Then bring back Johnston for 4 mil. That's 21mil on a 60 mil cap. They can bring back King and Hewitt etc.... on the vet min. Say that costs another 10 mil. I don't know how much the rookie draft pick money will be but I think they could sign a RB like Swift and a Safety like McKinney for around 12 mil. That leaves the draft to fill the holes. Of course they could go to the bank of Tunsil to create more space if needed. Fortunately Caserio is good at finding filler guys on 1or 2 year deals in FA. I see the 49ers LB Burks as this type of guy.
Texans should go all out on defense this offseason. Queen, Greenard, and a good safety would really help this defense.
They are only going to have the money to sign one top tier FA and retain most of their own FA's. This is why I hope they can draft Nate Watson or Payton Wilson in the 3rd-4th rd.
From what I read on Spotrac, these are the ballpark expected figures: Greenard - 13 million Nelson - 10 million Schultz - 10 million Rankins - 10 million Singletary - 5 million Brown - 5 million That's 53 of their 60 million just to bring back them. Then they have kickers to sign... Rankins and Nelson would have to go to sign any significant free agent like Queen... Not sure if you want to rely on stingley and a rookie at corner...
