I remember when randy johnson kinds took Billy Wagner under his wing to help him develop the slider more. Wish we had more of that Also forget signing another pitcher just get storm back that will turn 4 of our pitchers back to all star level
I wish everyone talking about Dusty and racism would get banned. The quality of the forum would rocket with that one move.
Who cares what it has to do with Dusty! This is the Astros off season thread. That old man is a Giant now. There is a thread for former Astros I believe. Getting Blake Snell after Hader would make the league freak out. It would be cool if Crane just went balls to the wall and did it.
Getting Randy Arozarena from the Devil Rays would make Teams really scared. Randy is a Cuban Player I believe would fit in with our Latin Players. He will Bat 2nd in the order and will bring in so much energy.
I hope the stros don't spend more money on offense (if they are planning to keep tucker ) We will prob have a lineup of Tuve, bregman, yordan, tucker, Diaz, mccormick, abreau, Pena, Myers. That is a weak bottom half (weaker than what we are used to) but the hope would be that Pena bounces back with some of the pop he showed his rookie year and abreau hits more like how he ended the year.
How is it weaker than the last 2 years? Pena has been here 2 years already and shouldnt be worse. Abreu likely will be better, or at least not worse, than Yuli and him were the last 2 years. Meyers, or pretty much anybody, will give us more than Maldy did in the 9 spot. This, on paper at least, should be the best lineup 1-9 that we've had in a few years.
Pederson looks like he signed with Arizona. 9.5 with a 14 million mutual option. Would have been a perfect complement to Chaz, Meyers, and even Dubon. Don't know how serious we are about the other OF options on the market, but I would have preferred him on that deal to any of them
That would be preferable to trading them for a salary dump, but even in my fantasy I can only get my hopes up so much.
That seems kind of steep. Not a terrible deal but I don’t see it as something I wish Houston had done.
How is that a weak bottom half? Meyers is the only one that is a below average hitter. Pena is average especially for shortstop. Everyone else are plus hitters.
9 million for a guy that hovers around 800 OPS for his career isn't horrible. Mutual options are not options at all since either can decline it.
They will still owe him the buyout if they turn down their side of the mutual option. So it’s more likely a $12.5M/1yr deal. Like I said, not terrible but not great for a guy who projects as a roughly average hitter at DH.
