If you ever have to think about money, you aren't wealthy. Doesn't matter how much you make. In other words if you live comfortably within your means.
Can't calculate wealth without factoring time + freedom. Once you erase the time Elon spends Tweeting and crying and fingering his butt for attention to inflate TSLA stock, he's not even in the top 10 anymore.
It's all relative. I know people who would say I'm wealthy, whereas I don't feel like I am. I'm looking at the people with million dollar houses saying "wow, must be wealthy" but who knows, they could be check to check and one layoff from homeless. I think wealthy is not being worried. Maybe that means you don't spend a ton (live off the grid), so the costs of things don't bother you. Or could mean you're making a million and spending only $500K so you have plenty of cushion. As to those making $200K and living paycheck to paycheck, those are people who thought they were wealthy and then spent like someone making $300K. If you don't do that, you can end up pretty wealthy in the long run.
Yep, there are millionaires out there who have never made more than $200K a year their entire working lives. And there are also people out there making 500K/year who are living paycheck to paycheck, drowning in debt and are just a $10,000 emergency away from filing having to file for bankruptcy. Just live on less than you make, avoid debt, max out your retirement savings and everything else is cream cheese. MAN, if I could go back and tell that to my 24-year old self.......
That is thing about wealth, for Bill Gates, Shaq is poor, but for 99.999% of the population Shaq is beyond wealthy. Same thing with average Joe, some people think 100K is rich, some think one million is rich. Read an article about a person with networth of over 100 million, yet he feels he is poor as he is the least wealthy among his peers and friends.
