Does this team have the highest ratio of dawgs since the 90s?

When was the last time the Rockets had so many tough, physical players all on the same team?

    Brooks
    Tari
    Tate
    Fred
    Holiday
    Jabari

All certified or at least showing strong signs.

Hell, even Sengun has been playing pretty physical most nights.

I kept saying before the season, we have an unusually high concentration of defensive players in our rotation. Brooks, Tari, Amen, Jabari is our terrifying defensive core of the future and 3 of them can already shoot. FVV, Tate, Bullock, Holiday, Landale have good defensive ability too. We have a LOT of defenders to throw at teams.

Loving the identity of this team. I think they will still get tougher with this as the young guys get more comfortable being aggressive. Sengun, Jabari and Green have shown so much more toughness this season but by the end of this season they will be more polished defenders.

Only missing a 7ft+ big who can protect the rim for 10-15 minutes. Someone who can mentor Sengun/Landale/Jabari on interior rim protection and scoring. We need to be able to beat up on small teams more often.

I love this Rockets team's defensive scrappiness. However, taking this thread too seriously, here would be some of the teams these Rockets would have to pass in physicality and grit, in nebulous order:

    1. 2004 Pistons: Rasheed, Ben, Tayshaun, Chauncey, Rip, Hunter, Okur, Atkins, Sura
    2. 2009 Rockets with Artest, Mutombo, Battier, Dorsey, Hayes, Landry, Scola, and Lowry
    3. The 2012ish Randolph, Tony Allen, Tayshaun, Conley, Carter, Lee, Jeff Green (!) Grizzlies
    4. 2006 Heat with Mourning, Payton, Haslem, Shaq, Posey, Walker, Williams, Wade
    5. In spite of Ginobili and Parker being part of the embellishment-soccerization that ruined NBA basketball, the Finley/Duncan/Horry/Bowen Spurs
    6. 2018 Rockets with Capela, Tucker, Ariza, Mbah a Moute and Paul
    7. The Warriors with Bogut, Draymond, and Zaza and three men dressed in black and white
    8. 2011/12 Rockets with Camby, Dalembert, Lee, Lowry, Scola, Parsons

Also there are 3 Rockets teams on here because that's my ride or die. I'm sure people could make cases for some more obscure Pacers or other teams I don't follow very closely.

Definitely the toughest Rockets team I've seen. That playoff rotation without T-Mac was tough as hell, even the other guys not mentioned above - Scola was scrappy, Brooks was small but fearless, Wafer was shamelessly confident (if nothing else) and Yao was unflappable.

Yeah I felt they could lock down anyone at anytime especially when Metta was in with Battier.

I see all this revisionist history on Twitter, like “this is my favorite team since the ‘09 Rockets!” It’s like people have selective memory about what happened from 2013-2020.

Even more than the championship teams, which I do remember, from top to bottom the 2017-2018 Rockets will be the most dominant force I’ve ever witnessed. With CP, Tucker, Ariza, LMM, and Skinny Capela on the perimeter with an Iron Curtain-like switch-everything defense, and the tree trunk James Harden doing his best Chuck Hayes impression in the post, that Rockets team was the closest I will ever see to having both the #1 Offense AND #1 Defense for the whole season.

It took Adam Silver intervening through Scott Foster, showing us all that the NBA is a sport 2nd and entertainment 1st, to prevent that team from winning it all. This team can be surprisingly plucky, but it won’t approach that one in terms of poise and performance.
