Agreed - but the reason the Brewers couldn’t get anything for him is that he wasn’t willing to make that type of commitment. Talk about bad luck for Brewers fans - they were almost going to deal him for an absolute haul last year and now they are non tendering him. My guess is he ultimately ends up with the Cubs, Dodgers or Yankees. However if I were him, I wouldn’t sign with anyone and then next year hold a showcase…. If he looks good he will draw big money.
Show me a season by one of them as a starter with a low 3 era. K rate is nice to mention but are you including when he wasn't healthy?
True if Meyers was a star level player they wouldn't be looking to trade him. He's the type of player you described and there's plenty of guys with his skill level. Might as well try to exact some value out of him. If he starts battling .270 with 20 home runs and an above avg obp then my hats off to him. I actually hope he has success because he seems like a good guy. But a guy with his skill set I would trade in a heartbeat to fill a hole. I probably would try to package him with France and a guy like Arrighetti to get a SP that can pitch 175 quality innings.
Hunter Brown will be better than Cease this year. This is the type of deal the Pirates do trading away Glasnow and souch more for Archer. Can't do it.
I would be good with a trade like this if they can get Cease straightened out. ( God I miss Strom) This could be a Cole type acquisition. He's certainly got the stuff. Robert is the cherry on top. Would make a top defensive OF and an Ace. I like Brown and would like to hold onto him, but to get an Ace and an OF like Robert it's going to cost. This comes down to how much risk you're willing to accept.
That trade didn't work out really well for either team. Archer (disaster) for Glasnow, Meadows, and Baz....a whole bunch of MEH that looked great at the time
Cease is the right guy. He's wild, and walks suck in the playoffs, but his stuff is scary, undeniable, and he has shown he can command it. Hunter hasn't shown he has that kind of mojo. Urquidy has stepped up, but he's still the last guy in the rotation. McCormick's value will go no higher than it is currently. He's also expendable. Like.
So far the Stros have been able to keep up with the major market teams by having guys like France, McCormick etc... step up and out perform their projected levels. A long with making screwed trade, plus having guys in the ROY top 5 for the past decade hasn't hurt the cause. I wonder who the next unexpected major contributor will be.? My bet is on Baez or Whitley.
This roster would be pretty amazing: CF Robert 2B Altuve 3B Bregman DH Alvarez 1B Abreu RF Tucker C Diaz SS Pena CF Dubon Bench: Salazar, Meyers, Singleton, Kessinger Rotation: Verlander, Valdez, Cease, Javier, France Bullpen: Pressly, Abreu, Graveman, Montero, Sousa, Martinez, Garcia/Bielak, McCullers/Whitley
Love this, But I bet they trade Meyers too and if they do I could see them going with one of Loperfido, Leon or Baez in LF.
I’m assuming you are putting Dubon in left field. Dubon is not starter material. He is a great utility man off the bench. They could really use another OF that can hit RHanders consistently and then you will have the deepest lineup in the majors.
