100% not true. There are plenty of fun, food, drink, etc..., nearby options after games all within walking distance or short uber or train. You couldn't be more wrong.

Main St. after Astros Fri/Sat night games has always been a blast for me. Main has a little of everything too, younger crowd clubbing to older crowd drinking holes and everything in between. Tons of variety. Warning for some folks, it can get a little ratchet at times and can feel like Bourbon St. light with street preachers, homeless, partygoers, music blaring, fancy cars, etc.. all mixed and packed in together.

lol, there is nothing wrong with TC’s location, and putting it in the Galleria area has gotta be a joke…no way somebody actually living in Houston is saying that

majority of the fans that show up just do not make noise or get engaged, especially in the lower bowl…I don’t understand being a young or middle aged adult and just sitting there quietly the whole time, u could do that at home

    https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.c...oyota-center-renovations-nhl-possibility.aspx

From the 10/6/23 Chron article in the link above:

“This summer we spent a lot of time really planning for the future of the arena. We’re mapping what those changes are going to be, what the timeline is going to be. Our goal is to make sure we keep the facility the most premium live sports and entertainment venue in the city. That is going to include what does the concourse look like, what does the main entrance look like, what does the team shop look like, what events can this building serve.”

Improving the setting for basketball, however, is still the primary goal.
    ...
There is a hope that the other conspicuous difference will come with winning more regularly, but phase two of rebuilding the team coinciding with phase 1 of renovations is more of a coincidence than a plan.

“Maybe a lucky coincidence,” Sheirr said. “We started looking at this in 2020. This is the timeline when things need to happen. COVID slowed that down. We’ve been doing this for a while but now we’re at a point we can do it fast forward with a tighter timeline.”

The drive downtown isn't bad anymore I avoid the galleria area 610/59 interchange like the plague.

I've been a STH for many years, and they have been making several improvements to the TC since TF took over, BUT a vast majority of those are to the special clubs, bars, and other premium areas. I get upgrade passes every so often and all those spaces have really gotten nice, but they do nothing for the average fan and only create encouragement to not sit in the stands and cheer. Between the free food, upgraded or free drinks, trendy spaces, and lighter crowds, I could totally understand why someone would spend 75% of the game away from the stands (even if I don't agree with that choice).

Is the stadium really THAT bad or is that the team has been THAT bad recently? I've been to both TD and MSG and neither are anything to write home about - I don't think the TC is all that worse compared...however I agree MCG has a vibe and TD can also be electric(although I find Boston fans to be racist AF). I've also hit games in San Antonio and Philly. San Antonio does have a nice stadium but I have also spent a considerable amount of time both parking and trying to get to our seats while in the TC I feel like it's fairly easy to get in/out but I suspect a lot of that has to do with Houston's much better infrastructure to get high volumes of people in/out.

what about the disjointed parking on nearby lots or the 37 yrs to get out of the parking garage, annoying one way streets, the homless/panhandling problem or drunk drivers, crime and dark, poorly lit areas around T center and crime problem with insufficient security/ police presence.

Even when we were good, our crowd has always been relatively weak. Too many corporate ticket holders showing up late or leaving early. Hanging out in the Lexus lounge or whatever instead of participating in the game/crowd action.

I’m sure these issues exist but I’ve been going to TC games since it opened and I’ve never really had an issue. I usually go early and park and eat at China Garden though. Never been accosted by a homeless person in Houston — unlike in Austin. Never had issues with one way streets like I do in San Antonio. Overall I like the location, but those early games when other stuff is happening in town and 288 gets backed up… yikes

would love a Katy stadium so I could just drive in from Austin and hope right back on 10.
