Money doesn't buy rings like it used to, spend smartly rather than have heartburn about DFAing washed overpaid players...

It did for the Rangers, though.

Time will tell on this one

I don't think Dusty was Crane's hire, and I don't think he really had, or at least felt like he had, the true ability to get rid of him whenever he wanted

Click seemed like he was good at what he did, but if he didn't get along with people I would imagine dealing with him AND Dusty wouldn't have been much fun

Brown comes across as a very smart man, and very baseball smart. We really don't know what he can do though cause we haven't seen it yet.

If i'm right and Dusty wasn't truly a Crane hire....then Cranes hiring history is outstanding

    I would make this deal

    BUT

I'm a little surprised how few people on here value having really good utility guys. Personally i think we need to add another one in addition to Dubon. In todays game, with so many players getting so many days off, having solid versatile utility players can be a big advantage in my opinion. Seems it's an opinion very few agree with

    Silly.

Giants traded Dubon to Houston for Mike Papierski in a roster dump. They’re not going to turn around and give away one of their best hitters and fan favorites to get him back, regardless of what the numbers say.

I would call the Royals and try to get Bobby Witt Jr. I would start off with a package of Pena and Hunter Brown

Didn't Scott Harris make that deal though?

If so, I don't think new GM's are going to value deals of previous GMs of that organization when making current deals

I'd put the chances of that trade at way less than 1%, but I don't think it was the current regime that made the previous Dubon deal

I think Dubon has been very valuable. He may have been the team's MVP of the 1st half last year

    It's just that

    1) as a bench player the salary will eventually catch up and pass the value he brings the team.

    2) a trade requires players going both directions to be reasonable for the needs of the organization. Dubon is the 1 Astro that fits the needs that Zaidi mentioned in that interview.

And Dubon has grown in ability, versatility, and value since the Giants traded him. What he was before should have no bearing on whether they want him back

The top baseball decision maker is the same guy (Zaidi).

I think most orgs will recognize that Dubon is pretty much the same hitter he has always been. I think what maybe has changed is that he has shown an ability to play CF at an acceptable level which might give him some pretty unique value for teams needing a utility IF and a 4th OF rolled into one.

Bochy being hired this year mattered more than Semien and Seager getting signed two years ago.

Sounds like the same argument folks made on why we weren't getting Verlander back...

Brown and Pena is all it should take.
    I wouldn't do it though.

Had the Astros gone out after 2014 and outbid everyone for the top two free agents like the Rangers did, we would be looking at 4 or 5 world series right now but hindsight is always 20/20.
Those top two were Jon Lester and Max Scherzer.
