I fell in love with The Rockets my first time watching it on my own as a kid and seeing the Spaceship be chased by the damn Utah Jazz logo and seeing it crash into the closing wall and hearing Bill Worrell's introduction. There was so much enthusiasm. You can tell he really loved this team. My favorites though were the radio guys, Gene and Jim. Everybody remembers "How sweet it is!", but I to this day still scream "YEEEUHHSSSS!" with the raspy voice imitation. Hollins is horrible. Give Calvin his "real" spot back or bring JVG home. Hell, I'll take Van Chancellor again. lol
Extrapolating from six games (which is entirely appropriate and statistically valid), I'd say 40 wins is very much in play...
I would have laughed at the thought of this a month ago. But if they keep playing defense like they have in the first six games, and the young guns keep improving from week to week, then nothing. Nothing will stop this years Rockets from being the 2022 SacKings. Can't wait to see what the next 6 games hold.
I do not get that there is only the Kings scenario. IIRC the Thunder also had a 14-15 wins bump upwards......along with the ascension of Shai. The Thunder play a much more consistent type of basketball.......which is not reliant on hot shooting. With mostly players under 26 years of age.
If I'm being sober and rational then this makes sense as well! But dammit, it'd be nice to show up on the national stage the way the Kings did last year. I'm not saying we will, but a boy can dream can't he?! That said, I woke up with a smile this morning. It's been a long time since I was this excited about the Rockets.
Update: I am actually a pessimist, and advanced statistics tell us their record will now be between 79-3 and 47-35.
What's your favorite stat of the young season (or the winning streak)? I think mine is that in the 192 minutes of the last 4 games, we have trailed for exactly 6 minutes and 56 seconds. Exactly 4 minutes behind in Q1 v. Hornets 2 minutes and 1 second chasing in Q3 v. Kings (G1) 55 seconds behind in Q1 v. Kings (G2) 0 minutes and 0 seconds behind v. Lakers Largest deficit was a whopping 6 points early in the Hornets game.
I can’t lie, after that road trip, I’m sad that we’ve dipped under .500. I’d still be ecstatic with a 40 win season, but I do think the ceiling on this season is a little higher than that. Am I getting carried away?
Thanks for reminding me about that first part and the animated intro. I had totally forgot about that for our local telecasts. Really miss those NBA on NBC intros with the storylines to start too. So lucky to have grown up with Bill and Calvin though. Best times ever.
