Vanessa Richardson - New Rockets Sideline Reporter

On the broadcast last night Ackerman and Hollins were having a conversation and tossed it over to her, and she let out a loud, "WHAT'DYOUSAY?" on the air. I chuckled, but still I think it's not something you're supposed to hear a professional broadcaster say live. Equivalent to a burp.

AND they have an actual job to do that requires them to be polished from a PR and marketing standpoint to help less polished players and coaches AND be prepared enough to be able to talk about sports generally, team history, and player history intelligently. There are lots of pretty girls - but the pool of people who can what Vanessa is doing fairly well at is considerably smaller. I know a lot about sports but I don't know if I would necessarily know where "back home" is when a random player references it, or "back in college" for all the players, or I might not know about Calvin Murphy's history if I weren't old AF. A lot of it is cliche sports banter, but you gotta know your stuff to engage in that type of banter and keep it moving in the entertainment world and that's not a skill set a lot of people have - period. Respect the hustle she puts in to make that happen live and not feel super awkward.

...it's kind of like posters on this forum - the pool of people who can oversimplify things to "they are only hired for eye candy" is vast...the number of people who can actually dig a little deeper and add something of value and bring intelligent insight is considerably smaller.

 

She is okay. Don't get me wrong she is really pretty, but I don't get the crazy hype over her. She's a typical good looking woman. Her smile is a little bit creepy if I am being honest. Almost too big

 

She does a good job of doing what they are asking her to do, sort of fluff pieces......

Nah, gotta be honest, things have gone down since Shelby. Every new sideline reporter has been a step down in quality. Vanessa is just part of the downward trend.

 

This would be a HUGE upgrade over Vanessa.

 

I'll take either one over Vanessa right now.

 

Gentlemen, she’s a reporter not a p**nstar, her looks are perfectly fine and she adequate at her job. My only knock on her is she’s from Indy, I prefer Houston people on the broadcast
