The first half of the trailer looked great. The second half... yuck.

I generally support sci fi that isn't just built off other properties. This may not be great but I'll try and get out to see it.

Before they threw up the graphic to let you know it was by the director behind Rogue One, I was thinking how much the big sweeping panoramic near space shots looked like Rogue One.

Dude definately has a thing for big, majestic space shots.

Still definitely interested.... but I am tired of this "savior child" trope.

    I really don't get it.
Is it supposed to be like the AIs just said: "ears are hard - **** this. we'll just walk around with massive, machine-like holes where ears should be."

Maybe the algo identified ears as something most people don't care about?

...they didn't ask me, because big ears on women are my 'pointy knees' deal breaker.

My understanding is that ears are one of the "tells" for AI generated faces - they have a ton of trouble getting the ears just right.

But more likely the art director just thought it'd be cool for the robot people to have see-through holes in their heads that you can only see from the side.

Did anyone else go see this yet? I had a friend recommend it to me so my wife and I checked it out over the weekend...

...and it was was not good. I know part of the idea of sci-fi is to suspend your disbelief, but there was so much about this movie that just didn't make any sense, and the acting wasn't great, at least not from the leads. I'm a huge fan of the Denzel Washington version of Man on Fire. That's a movie that demonstrates how quickly a grown man and a child can form a bond on a small amount of screen time. The Creator failed at that pretty miserably and I never really felt connected to their relationship, which was so important to the movie. I don't get out to the movies near as often as I used to, so it's pretty disappointing when one of the times I go results in a mess of storytelling and wooden acting. Oh well.

    Anyone else catch it?

    No, and no spoilers here.

I was told it's visually amazing and plot deficient

I would agree with that assessment. Visually it was very impressive. But I guess I struggled to enjoy that with the other deficiencies that I kept fixating on.
