Ok, some on the pitching depth chart list will likely be traded. Now at the deadline? Or bf next season or at next seasons trade deadline? What do you think,?
My first thought is what is really going on with Eovaldi? Are they hiding an injury until after the deadline to try and not seem so desperate? Kinda like the Astros with Brantley last year...
No one is trading for what Scherzer has been this year, but for what they think he can be going forward. Same with JV. I mean, the Dodgers just traded for Lance Lynn, who's been the worst starting pitcher in all of baseball this year.
He’s either got a minor injury or a dead arm… something causing his velocity to drop. I believe he’s starting Sunday so doubt they’re hiding something catastrophic. Even with a tiring version of him (that often gets injured regardless), they would need to upgrade their starting rotation to claim a legit chance of making noise in the playoffs. Astros do as well… unless Framber/Javier/France can somehow channel their best regular season selves into the playoffs.
I feel like you'd want to both or neither. Either blow it all up and load up on prospects, or keep the band together and try again next year. Trading one but not the other seems unlikely to get them anywhere? But who really knows. If they get players that can help next year, maybe it makes sense to keep JV (or if he doesn't want to go anywhere).
Scherzer has made it clear that he wants the hell out of NY. Real chance for Mets to get very good young players if they pay down his contract.
I bet the Rangers get Brooks Raley thrown into the deal. I predicted last week or so that Scherzer would go to the Rangers. I figured he would waive the no trade because he is buddy buddy with deGrom and they will talk for sure before he signs off on the deal.
And Cohen has made it clear he will pay as much as he needs to to get the best prospects in return. He says he considers the money already spent and priority is to revamp and upgrade the talent in the organization.
