What jo said…she basically drew a line in the sand with the Catholic Church and she got severely ostracized for it. But as others have mentioned, she was right all along.

    She was probably insane.

Did she suicide herself? She joined Sinn Fein, then the Irish Orthodox Catholic and Apostolic Church then converted to Islam and called non-Muslims disgusting and said she was also Muslim lol.

"I never wanna spend time with white people again (if that's what non-muslims are called). Not for one moment, for any reason. They are disgusting."

She was a very tortured soul. She was abused as a child, was heavily criticized and denigrated for her stand against the Catholic Church. She lost her son to suicide. She admitted to being bipolar and other mental
    Issues.

I was told by someone once that the Irish soul is about suffering and lamenting and she had that.

I don't think you can describe her antics as irish madness. She was a fantastic singer and beautiful woman but her stunts were manic and self aggrandizing martyrdom .

Interesting how standing up to child abuse and pedophilia is only noble........

...... when it's not directed at religion. Claiming the Catholic Church was abusing children is true and isn't some mental health delusion.

It’s not about madness but about that Ireland has been shaped by suffering. Whether from the British colonialism, potato famine or poverty. Sinead O’Connors suffering was unique in her own way but also part of an Irish tradition of suffering through art. That’s why I posted her song “Rebel Song” in honor of her. It’s a song about abuse that is both personal and political.

why are you so adamant she didn't have mental health problems? the evidence and outcome is pretty clear. Recognition is the first step to resolution.

The poster clearly said she had mental health issues like bipolar.

Why are you so adamant she was mad…. You still upset she had the audacity to call out the Catholic Church very real child abuse?

I’m not I even said she suffered from bipolar and other mental health issues. She’s gone now so there is no resolution for her. I’m pointing out that yes she had mental health and other issues that’s what shaped her art. That many great Irish artists also suffered from many issues.
