Congrats to the July 26 2023 World Champion Texas Rangers....at least that's how they are acting right now
Can Altuve and Yordan Alvarez stay Healthy productive. Michael Brantley is a Bench Coach at this Point. $12 million was really stolen. Worst deal ever by Bagwell and Jim Crane Michael Brantley, Rafael Montero, Jose Abreu over Justin Verlander, Yuli Gurriel
Pretty sure we were caught with our pants down. When your SP gives up 8 hits in 3 innings that is not a win. If JP France is our ace in stats, we are in deep do-do. Stros need to learn 2022 is over, need to start re-aligning the position start with C.
Astros won the series - took 2 of 3 and that it all I could ask for. Within 2 games of the Rangers and added Altuve and Alvarez and the deadline is almost here- pretty close to a perfect outcome all things considered. Astros need to let Valdez get healthy - add another starting pitcher, and ideally a couple bullpen pieces and they are good to compete. Rangers talking about making some larger moves - from my perspective we win either way. If they want to blow their young prospects, that is their call- just will hurt them in a year or two.
Really? The Astros are 16-8 in their last 24 games and they were without their two best offensive players in all but one of those games. The Astros have been without 3 starters from last year- all year. Altuve and Alvarez have missed massive parts of the season. Yet the Astros are 2 games from the Rangers and 4-5 from the best record in the AL. Framber Valdez is human - and he is pitching with nagging injuries and with almost no off season. Just enjoy that the Astros have stepped up - and fought. Appreciate that the Astros have two rookies in their rotation doing well - and a catcher that will be the best catcher in team history if he stays healthy.
TWO weeks and THREE weeks Framber and Javier's needed rest time before their next start. Neither is healthy. Each game they play before that is a waste and potentially season-ending as far as being effective September and October. They've had maybe 2 good games combined since mid-June. Astros need a starter or 2 before the deadline (maybe Blanco can perform) and hope the offense slugs its way to victories. Urquidy can't get healthy soon enough.
Gutsy performance from a gutted team. Dusty doesn’t get enough credit for stepping up in big series. Houston fans expect perfection from this team. Cheer them on.
No doubt he has the potential, but considering that the team has had exactly two AS appearances by a catcher (Biggio, Castro) in its entire history that is not a high bar to hurdle
People saying they'd rather get blown out than losing a close game late are just coping with a terrible loss. Players say it too sometimes. It's all cope
My point was more the non need to use tired high leverage arms. Plus I got to go to bed early. I'm in NY (An hour ahead of you guys) and get up at 5:15AM. Different perspectives I guess.
Thats baseball. These kinds of games are inevitable. Positives: Altuve and Yordan came back from injury. Montero had another good outing. Only 2 runs and 8 baserunners in 9.2 July innings. Stanek had another good outing - only 1 walk in his last 5 and not more than 1 baserunner in any of them. Outside of 1 bad outing, only 3 runs and 8 baserunners in 10 innings this month. Pressly, Neris, Abreu, and Maton all got the day off and will have at least 2 days of rest going into the TB series. Bregman continues to put his poor 1st half behind him and is starting to hit lefties too. Diaz continues to blossom before our eyes. There are still 4+ days till the trade deadline and 59 games left in the season. So, last night was kick in the nads. The fact that it was against the Rangers smarts, but it doesn’t change anything about the season - big picture. Brown simply has to bring in some pitching, but I still have faith he will and the team will be a force rolling into October .
