I got a new job and I'm moving. Housing market is jacked up. Mortgage rates are jacked up to prevent that, all that's going to happen is they'll lower them and the **** will hit the fan even harder. I'm about to buy the most expensive house of my life, it's older than I am and needs more cosmetic work too. It's like, really expensive man. Have you guys ever investigated that PODS service? They wanted 2 grand for one 16' container, about 250 miles down the road. I felt like an absolute idiot, the lady even said how much did you think it was lol... I was just like well a uhaul is like 300 bucks soooooo about tree fiddy? We looked at apartments, holy god it's just an apartment. What right do they have to try to mirror the housing market??? 1500 bucks for a 2 bedroom in the G? May as well just dunk your savings on an old ass beater home and pray to god no one gets hurt or needs anything.
Congrats on the new job! Market dictates housing pricing (except in NYC). Sell lots of **** you don’t need. Move what you need.
You could always live out of your car 5 days a week and go home on the weekends. Get a gym membership for showers and Starbucks for wifi.
If you're buying, try rolling your closing cost into the loan as much as you can. At a 250-mile move, yes move your own **** with a Uhual or Pensky(home depot), if you are physically able to. I'm built like an Asian woman and was able to clear my whole house with one friend in one day, you will need a dolly.
That sucks and unfortunately housing prices and moving prices are high. It’s unlikely they will come down significantly. This might not be advice you want to hear but have you considered if your new job is worth it if you can’t afford the move? I’ve turned down jobs / projects when it looks like or the likely return won’t be worth the trouble of doing them.
