Damn, either this dude has the best agent around or the prospect lists were wayyyy off on him.

Doesn’t make sense. Even if the majority of scouts are wrong and only Dana is right, why would we overslot the kid by 500k. Maybe it’s a typo.

Jaworsky getting $850k is shocking, especially since it makes it really hard to see how they will be able to sign Huezo, since Ochoa likely got at least $800k and Matthews is the only signee so far to come In significantly under slot. In any case at this point Duncan is a pipe dream.

There’s a 0% chance we were unaware of what it would require to sign him before drafting him. All this means is we view him as much more valuable than a typical 5th round pick, and structured our draft for that.

Time will tell if that was wise.

It is very likely Houston was prepared to pay him $850k when they drafted him, but it’s not unheard of for players to change their mind or go back on their word. It happened to Houston with their 4th round pick Alex Ulloa a couple of years ago.

Great news. I guess Tredwell is lined up to sign for well under slot, otherwise Ochoa or Huezo (or both) are signing for way less than I expect.

Oh for sure. But if that was the case here, I suspect they’d simply not sign Jaworsky and lose the slot value rather than $850k. The agreement convinces me that this was all part of the plan.

Huezo only getting $400k makes things a lot more clear.

Roughly, Huezo got the 5% overage allotment , Jaworsky got the amount Matthews signed under slot, and Ochoa will get whatever amount the unknown 2-10 round guys sign for under slot. I’m wondering if Will Bush will get anything over $150k.

Huezo was unlikely to sign once Ochoa was signed. Huezo was the fallback player if Ochoa failed to sign. Also the leverage in negotiating with Ochoa. There is unlikely to be money for both and I believe there was never any intention to sign both unless there is some unforeseen opportunity.

Given the lack of details, I can’t be the only one who was worried that the Ochoa signing was a typo.

Still no word on the value, but pen has officially been put to paper there.
