I haven't decided if Days or Meyers is the better upside ultimately. Days not big enough a rebounder whereas Meyers does have good size at the 3/4 with reasonable handle and sneakiness.
He had one season in College where he shot 39% from 3, but in the last two years he was 32 and 33 percent. Also only shot around 70% on FTs. I'm not sure he's a shooter.
A more well rounded showing of his skills... not just a 3 point shooter. Puts it on the floor and goes to the basket... awkwardly. Decent explosion. But it is college, so... *shrugs*
Oh, he's definitely a shooter. He can get his shot off in a split second and his stroke is pure/repeatable. He can rebound and handle well enough to not be Gary Bird with limited finishing ability. As @roslolian said he reminds me of a Miami find as well.
He’s definitely a better prospect than for example, Garrison Matthews (no I’m not making the comparison because they are both White, but rather UDFA’s). It feels like Mayer has more to his game. He can drive, pass, finish at the rim, seems to have better shot selection and handles. I’d like to see him in pre-season against stronger nba competition.
My biggest concern with him is the impotence of his mullet. The Baylor vids shown much more height on that mullet. He really needs to grow that part of his game.
Maybe he was trying to do too much in Illi when he went there from Baylor and that caused a drop in percentages. I look at him and what role would he play with us, he would be like a Matt Bullard type F. Just in there to get off some 3s to keep the floor spread when the creators are creating. I am not judging his game for his role to be a starting caliber player and have to do a lot of things, it's nice that he can handle it, make good passes, and finish in the paint at a decent rate, but that is not the role I see for him with us. Kid has a really good shooting stroke and he shoots it with confidence every time. He could be our Duncan Robinson.
