I like the thinking here. PG options (in order) 1. FVV - knows what he is doing 2. Amen - rookie, never played NBA before 3. KPjr - a 2 guard who can fill in at point. Has a tendency to dribble off his own foot 4. Tate - a forward who got the duties the last couple of years because nobody else could get the ball over the halfway line Having a combo guard veteran as that 3rd string PG gives Amen a great guy to sit next to on the bench, and a nice backup in case of injuries. We have that 4mill (ish) in cap space to use, snd can preserve the space exception.
So we have two developmental shooting guards in Jalen and KPJ that we’ve invest a lot in and need a lot of minutes We maxed out FVV, so he’s gonna get most of the minutes at point guard. We have the #4 draft pick Amen Thompson, but we don’t really know how ready for the nba he is. I can definitely see adding a combo guard but this is likely a minor add to back up FVV. I’m not high on any of the option in the pole, but Aaron holiday has the most point guard skills on the list.
I'm with this, let's just figure out the center position on trade deadline.. to prepare for a deeper play-in spot
No more getting rid of NBA talent for no players or worse players. KPJ is a high end NBA talent that is way outperforming his contract.... The stupidity of getting rid of a core piece for nothing is staggering. DD
Watch us give away assets to take back a bad contract whilst at the same time giving other teams assets to take on expirings …
I get the idea on FVV being a combo guard. I disagree though. I think that with the way the league has shifted he’s actually closer to the true point guard end of the spectrum. And I don’t even really view green as a combo guard right now. Have you a message shooting guard that hopefully has lead guard potential. Combo guard implies that they can play point guard semi efficiently and that really doesn’t apply to anyone on the roster other than FVV. The gap between Fred and Green or Porter is massive. It makes FVV look like Stockton.
We don't need ANOTHER combo guard we need to just move a guard. Now, I haven't studied the money flowing here but my recommendation would be a deal started around the following: Rockets Out: Jalen Green Nets 1st Rd Pick Rockets In: Tyler Herro Miami 2nd Miami Out: Tyler Herro 2 Future 1st 1 Future 2nd Miami In: Damian Lillard Portland Out: Damian Lillard Portland In: Jalen Green. (Will get the support he needs from the gay community in Portland.) Nets 1st from Houston 2 Miami 1st Rockets 2023 Roster PG - VanVleet / Amen SG - Herro / Porter Jr. SF - Brooks / Eason / Whitmore PF - Smith Jr. / Tate ..C - Sengun / Landale
If we're trading Green we'd have to be getting multiple first rounders in that. Herro does not have the potential Green does. Also, Portland doesn't want another guard, that's why Miami is trying to find someone to take Herro.
