you have no idea how that will work out.

the whole point is a 2 year deal doesn't impact Green/Sengun so it doesn't matter if they don't reach RFA

Davis Bertans isn’t a bad contract?

Alternatively, they can spend the money wisely instead of tacking on negative assets.

I don't understand why it's such a difficult concept for people.

We want to sign good players to bad contracts for 2 years to give our young core the developmental infrastructure to learn how to play real NBA offense, NBA defense, and winning basketball.

    - Good player on a good contract at our positions of need? Unavailable to us.
    - Average player on a good contract? Doesn't serve our goals.
    - Below average player on a great contract (I.e., KJM or Tate)? Doesn't serve our goals.
    - Take on a bad player + draft picks on a bad contract? Doesn't serve our goals
    - Good player on bad contract that ends before our young core's extensions kick in? Perfect

The problem is that players like FVV are going to want to play 35 mins a game, which does not aid in our player development. A vet like Lowry would be much more helpful, because he doesn’t need but 20 mins a game, has a dog mentality, and goes away after a year. Lopez is the same, he provides nothing but the possibility of limiting Sengun’s mins for maybe a flyer’s chance of the play-in.

Would the board be ok w Harden at 2/80 (yr 3 PO)? Hearing the offers are similar tbh but JH wants 4 yrs And all the comforts … we shall see

Not advocating for him to come back although the connections were nice…

we got people thinking FVV is a bad contract for 2/80 - doesn’t make sense either way w our biggest need a pG

Huh? Did you even read the post I responded to?

The Rockets won’t have an extra $60m in cap space to roll over when FVV and Brooks’ contracts expire because Green/Sengun will be on their second contracts making almost as much.

2 year deals are not placeholders.

what are you talking about. clearly you don't know how things works

In your theoretical scenario, when FVV/Brooks contracts expire in 2025, then the "2nd contract" year for Green/Sengun when they're eligible which is 2025, the likes of FVV/Brooks are no longer in the books. It's common sense here and not that hard to understand

Your assumption that this "2nd contract" for Green/Sengun kicks in this coming season or next is 100% wrong

I would prefer Lowry as well.

But I think FVV would be good for Amen’s development. He’ll get back up PG minutes and get used to reading NBA defenses without the pressure of being a starter.

Jalen Green and Jabari would benefit from improved PG play as well. They’ll develop better with Fred than KPJ at lead guard.

FVV is a pretty good playmaker. His shot diet is majority 3’s but I believe he’s top 10 in asst/to ratio.

The counterargument is that if Lowry or any other expiring vet has only one year remaining on his contract, what incentive does he have to take a backseat and help out the team as a mentor, rather than immediately seeking a buyout upon trade to go to a contender?

If you sign FVV in free agency, then obviously he's ok with the plan you're laying out for the entirety of the contract, whether that involves scaling back minutes or even taking a backup role to Amen in Y2. Give me guys who are willingly signing up to be in that "adult in the room" role, rather than the guys who are being dumped by their old team and have no reason to be loyal to the Rockets.

yeah definitely smh. you clearly are lost or your math is that bad that you can't decipher what 2 years is

your bittching about a possible 2 year deal for FVV impacting the "2nd contract" of a Green, when it doesn't even come into play, when Green's next deal isn't even eligible until 2025. Which is let me say it slow. 2 years. 2 years. not 1 but 2 years from now. and even 2 years from now, he's a RFA not an UFA.

So a first team all defensive center on an expiring deal next year is worth Bertans lmao.

LMAO tripling down on your horrendous take. Just stupidity. It's no wonder CF's has gone downhill. folks like you are an embarrassment to CF's

    oh the irony.

Look at me I claim that Green and Sengun will be on their 2nd contracts this coming season or next, when in reality they'll both still be on their rookie deals. Lets live in an alternate reality. what a dummy

If you think FVV is an average to believe average player, this league ain’t for you!
