Good question, but sometimes basketball is confounding.

Reminds me very much of the D-Mo case: a legit 7-footer who got completely abused around the rim, yet somehow was able to stay with and harass guards on the perimeter. Let’s see what coach can cook-up here, we gotta let Udoka make decisions even if they don’t make straightforward sense.

So, Sengun can't make himself as tall as Jokic or Embiid or Brook Lopez or make his arms longer or jump significantly higher. So, 100% drop coverage won't be ideal because he can't easily stop everyone when they're already at the rim. He'll need to do his work early.

Guys like Horford or Chuck Hayes would be better players for him to model. What Sengun has in common with these guys is great footwork. He just currently uses that footwork for offense. He needs to use his feel for body positioning and footwork to anticipate where his man is going. The other thing is he needs to get in the weight room and continue losing his baby fat.

Lack of athleticism isn't an excuses. It's not for Horford or Chuck Wagon and it won't be for Sengun.

The only thing standing in the way of Sengun being a good defender is Sengun.

Sengun wont move much faster, jump higher, or shift faster but he can take better angles / paths and anticipate better. That comes with intelligence, experience, and coaching.

If only Sengun's a lefthander, DD would embrace him. :D

It wouldn’t matter, Easy. DD apparently wants to trade Tari Eason. Check the “Future of Tari?” thread. DD has his own unique view of our young Rockets, starting and ending with KPJ. It’s freaky.

    They will both do great.

    It's the reverse DD curse.

    He has always been wrong.

GSW and Celts are the two teams urgently need a real center. Their play-off performances exposed that requirements again. Celts survived Philly but crushed by Heat which has an undersized C. They could not handle even an undersized C.

Kerr focused on D.Green's contract, bad sign for GSW, good for the other teams. It is a distraction, like any Middle-eastern war, consuming too much money, power, effort, personnel but no result. Hope they can go on like that.

Celts is a different story. They have already started to question whether Tatum-Brown duo is great or very good. As ESPN people quoted they might start to discuss soon whether is very good or good enough.

They might send Brown to the Rockets for Sengun+plus. As Rockets invested heavily for JGreen and Jabari, the obvious package will contain Alp+Tari, two best players of the current team. Nightmare.

J.Brown eligible for $270M/5 years now. Hope he re-sign for Celtics, they find a C somewhere else and leave our youngsters alone.

I have never thought Celts would be as irritating as Knicks.

How about we don't do that and just sign Brown in free agency? People are always trying to trade Sengun. Just give it a rest already.

Boston had the following bigs since beginning of '21 season:
    -Enes kanter
    -Bruno Fernando
    -Daniel Theis
    -Al Horford
    -R.Williams

None of them championship caliber big. They had Tatum-Brown-Smart-White but not a big to accompany them. After Heat disaster they will force the market. Rockets FO is the easiest one to con. As J.Brown was Ime's best supporting player and will be #2 player in scapegoating process, an Ime-Brown re-union is more possible than pre-play-off era.

Even Rox signs J.Brown in '24 summer, he will get JGreen and Tari Eason minutes. Don't want it. Pass.

None of them are championship caliber because they haven't won yet? That's pretty dumb reasoning considering R Williams and Horford were literally in the finals last year and a Udoka away from being the favorites over everyone this year. You can't want to be right that bad.

Jokic did not win a ring but a championship caliber player. David Robinson was same before Duncan joined him. Winning is different than having the potential. Horford is a good player but not a C for the championship team.

Before calling people "dumb" or something else, it is better to read properly what was written. Or go to bathroom and look at the mirror. You will see the dumb there.

    Game 1:
    Bam: 37 minutes 20p/8 rebs/5 a
    Horford+Williams combined :58 minutes, 21p/13 rebs/2 a

    Game 2:
    Bam:38 minutes 22p/17 rebs/9 a
    Horford+Williams combined :52 minutes, 15 p/7rebs,3 a

    Two games total:

    Bam Adebayo : 75 minutes, 42 points, 25 rebs, 14 assists
    Horford+Williams: 110 minutes, 36 points, 28 rebs. 5 assists

Horford and Williams together played 47% more playing time than Bam, scored 15% less and grabbed just 3 more rebounds in additional 35 minutes.Their combined assist numbers is equal to one third of Bam, meanwhile.

I watched couple of his highlights the other week i think we, including me, are making a mistake comparing him with Sabonis. He's more of a craftier Vucevic. If you can find a photo of him in Sixers shirt you can tell rookie Vuc (21 y/o) had a very similar build with Sengun. Vucevic in Orlando was dunking the **** out of it while i don't remember Sabonis ever dunking. He's a good passer has nice spin moves, not a good defender. I think Sengun is craftier in the post but Vucevic is better shooter. There is not a lot of things seperate them from each other imo. Vucevic in his rookie season had couple instances that suggested that he could become a good 3pt shooter down the line and he did become one. Sengun has also looked like he could become one but i don't expect him to be as good as Vuc from behing the 3pt line. I think Sengun's ceiling is Vucevic hope he can get there.

Sengun is what a +1 on the wingspan? Jokic is like +3-4? Defense is literally all about those few inches to graze a ball or deny it altogether. Sengun has heart he will contest at the rim and he wins some battles, but he lacks the verticality combined with those short arms to be a similar defender to Jokic IMO. Denver has surrounded Jokic with plus defensive players to hide him to a certain extent. Teams arent afraid to drive on Jokic though and they dont even worry about Sengun as an anchor. Defensive footwork is totally different from offensive choreographed plays like you mentioned. It requires quick twitch fibers and cat like reflexes to be able to plant and cut on the drop. Alpie isnt that guy. He's clumsy on defense - he'll just get low with outstretched arms and hardly provide anything on the perimeter. I'd probably bet both Horford and Chuck Hayes were much stronger than Sengun which for big men is a necessity - and getting stronger is where Sengun could help himself the most on defense. His help defense is pretty good though.

Sengun's game (style and athleticism) remind me more of a smaller Big Daddy Sabonis.
