If it's a counter-order place that brings me my food and busses the table when I'm done, I'll tip a buck or two.

I do always ask at the counter if the employees get the tips or the restaurant keeps them.

    I don’t tip with cash.

I leave life tips and lessons written on napkins.

“Next time someone tips you with cash, don’t blow it. Invest it in an etf for your future self. You will thank me later”

“Save your tips to pay to upgrade your career”

“Don’t plan to pay your bills using tips. It’s uncertain income”

“Tips isn’t just cash. View customers as networking opportunities.”

Why do I do this? Because…

Give a Man a Fish, and You Feed Him for a Day. Teach a Man To Fish, and You Feed Him for a Lifetime”

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Don't teach a man to fish...and feed yourself. He's a grown man, and fishing's not that hard."

Bro, would you tip at Apple? Not sure if you have an actual Apple product, but if you found yourself at Apple buying "X" product, would you tip your usual 20%+. I know you love tipping.

At least they're not fishing for tips in the drive-thrus cause then it would be pandemonium. I bet some one-offs do.

Two chinese dinner size entrees to go pick-up = 2 dollars with no 'collection boy on a bike' nightmare

Three chinese dinner size entrees to go pick-up = 3 dollars with no 'collection boy on a bike' nightmare

And, so on. That's the best I can do for chinese pick-up.

Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

I will not rest until people are paid adequately so I am not shamed into paying salaries for everyone who lifts a finger.

    -- Ron Swanson

I heard that quote in his voice in my head while I was reading it. :D

I used to work for tips. Really, I depended on them because I made all of 2.15 an hour from the restaurant. I think about that all the time when I go out, and try to take care of servers. But, goddam I hate the practice! It's not really a gratuity when they require it just to make "minimum wage".

I don't really feel compelled to tip anyone else, although I still do when I feel like somebody is doing a good job in the service biz. I resent the growing expectation for tips though. I am no Ron Swanson, but I feel like him sometimes.

It's nothing against the people that are serving.

As it stands right now, if you don't tip someone in the restaurant, they literally are not making a wage. $2 an hour......??
So everyone feels compelled to tip knowing you are literally paying a decent salary.

I don't go to Best Buy and feel bad I am not tipping the guy who helped me find a cable...because I feel like they are paid a decent wage to be there.
Why can't the service industry do the same?

Then to make it worse, everyone got a fancy ipad they feel the need to ask for tip. Now i can't tell who to tip or not tip. Do I tip the dog groomer? Do I a food truck person (1 man shop)? How much do I tip the guy who gave me a ride from the parking lot at IAH to the terminal?
