He might not be able to outsmart defenses like a Manning, Brady, or Rodgers can, but give him a clean pocket and a few options and he can deliver balls with pinpoint accuracy.

Don't need to outsmart the D when you can just throw it to where only your WRs can catch it.

Build an offense around your QBs strengths and weaknesses. It's nothing new. We know what Strouds are. He can be a very successful QB in the league

iirc Anderson was the 1st true freshman to be a game 1 starter for a Saban Bama defense, and was named one of the team captains before his soph year...that says a whole lot to me.

eta: and Stroud seems to be that exact same level of guy.

Pretty damn exciting, now please go make it happen on the field.

Stroud is a very strong Christian believer, a young man of God.

And his father, who's in prison for iirc kidnapping amongst other things is a former minister.:eek:
Anyway "saved" DOES NOT mean "perfected"! (yet)
    It just means "forgiven"!!!
I'm sure that he's learned from his Father's mistakes too.
He sounds really sincere whenever I hear him speak.

    You can never tell though.
I remember the offseason before Deshaun's last year here (of really playing) he was in Israel and posted a video of Him getting baptized in the Jordan River! (not judging...only God knows for sure)

Most think they have both but it's usually one or the other.

Still not sure what you mean by that.
And if you're talking about Deshaun, CJ or his father.
Please dumb it down for me?

It's just hard to have money and hold strong in truly serving God. Easy said than done. I'll let God judge all these players and everyone else.

Oh I see what you mean.
Yes there's temptation of ALL kinds.
    Whether you're rich OR poor!

But if you come from not having anything (money wise) to suddenly having mega-bucks it can be a recipe for excess, especially if you don't have a good support system. (family, friends, church, etc..)

Stroud has a lot of upside, and more realistically - he has obtainable upside.

I find this talk really funny. He has good size, he is extremely accurate, has underrated arm strength - he doesn’t usually look to run in the pocket but is capable.

His personality is different - he is either going to be a major success or complete failure because of his personality.

He is considered the best of the Ohio State QB’s talent and performance wise by the Ohio State head coach.

Dan Marino did very poorly on intelligence tests coming out of college.

FWIW- Stroud has a really interesting personality. I don’t think he really cares if he did poorly on the test. I suspect he likely didn’t even put forth the effort others do… why? Because he doesn’t think the test matters. He doesn’t think it measures anything.

He has a really weird type of confidence. Evander Holyfield is like that too… Joe Montana and Aaron Rodgers to an extent. They think outside the box and have a blind confidence … and the outcome is crash and burn or be surprisingly success… almost like the thought of failing has never crossed their mind. Some really religious people are like that.

He had one of the worst Wunderlichs (since people are bringing up silly tests) in history, iirc.

If you watched him in games, the guy's really really good, but if you watch him on TV he comes across just a bit different.

    Nope.
I like you as a poster, but Jimmy G is certainly not a better functional athlete than Stroud. At this point Jimmy is just trying not to fall over and miss half the season… injuries have taken a major toll and he doesn’t consistently move well at all.

I don’t give a **** how smart CJ Stroud is. I just want him to be a good NFL QB. And I think he will be that.

You and the other guy in the Astros Forum really need to leave the god stuff out of it. It's offensive to many people.

And, by the way, your god does not give a **** about any of this.

This one was more hyperbolic than anything.
Stroud is not an athlete by any stretch, those wishing for it are going to be disappointed.
When Jimmy came out-pre injury there’s a very real comp athletically between the two.
Can move a little in the pocket and get out of the pocket when needed.
Can take yards that are there.

As far as the other post about upside. We’re just going to disagree, he doesn’t fit the profile of Mahomes/Allen/Burrow/Herbert.
The closest physical profile would be Burrow but Burrow has more burst and agility and a willingness to move.

He’s a Texan now, so I hope he is a top 5 guy in the league at some point, but more realistically he’s going to be Goff/Cousins/Dak like.

S2 has nothing to do with intelligence.
It’s processing speed and reaction times.
His scores lineup with not doing well under pressure.
I do think that can be coached up though
