The Office: Astros Run For the Wild Card As of 07/25/04, we are only 5.0 games behind SF Giants & the Padres for the Wild Card. All we need to do is make a run and the playoff spot is ours! The Astros had some wins against the Diamondbacks and Brewers. Wait till they win a series (or two) against good teams and then maybe there will be something to talk about.
The good news is that the Astros have more games with AZ, then they have the declining Reds, and Montreal for two series in the near future. If you look at the schedules of the teams ahead of us in the wild card, I'd put money on the Astros getting to within a game of the WC or so. The problem is that our schedule after we are done with Montreal returns to a brutal stretch where the Astros are going to actually have to play well against good teams to actually win this thing. It's going to be tough, but if they can win the games they should easily win over the next 2 weeks, they'll have a shot.
The Astros will probably need to go 41-23, .641 the rest of the season just to get to 90-72, .555 .641 would be better than the Cards and Yankees have played thus far..... .555 is what the Padres and Giants are currently at and most likely at least one of those teams will finish at least that.... In other words, the odds are long that the Astros make the playoffs....
and thats why we are fans!! the rockets were a long shot to comeback all those times they did. there is always hope
