Memphis is the best trade partner. They got their picks and young guys to trade and can pair him with Ja and JJJ and Bane.
WTF do we want with a 35 year old Durant? He's not on the timeline. There is no scenario in which we'll be competing for a championship in the next two years (and that's the most he has left in him). I'm not giving them back their picks if I'm the Rockets.
I think it all depends on how desperate he is to get out of there. It's not hard to borrow Harden's fat suit. He already has the embedded excuse of injuries.
You give up anything if you get a championship. Especially if you don't trade away your future. Durant and, let's say, Van Fleet, and Jeremi Grant would be possible. Van Fleet Green/ Porter Jr. Durant/ Eason Jeremi Grant Wemanyama/ Sengun Garuba Washington Fernando Mathews Christopher And you could STILL add one more free agent when one becomes available if needed. Win a ship now then let Green/Sengun/Wembanyama take the reins by the time 2027 comes around. But by then, they'll all be champions instead of guys who have been losing nonstop for six years.
I don't think the Rockets are getting Durant but the Rockets "timeline" is basically until the heat death of the universe because they haven't shown any significant improvement towards relevance and remain the worst team in the NBA for the 3 years. So, not messing with the current rebuild cycle - which is literally just quantum fluctuations into and out of nothingness - is not much of an obstacle IMO
Nets Believed To Be Changing Posture On Kevin Durant Trade The Brooklyn Nets may be coming off their position that they unequivocally won't trade Kevin Durant, which is a change from their posture last offseason. Brooklyn's position appears to have changed following the trade request of Kyrie Irving. While Durant and the Nets are discussing their future together, a trade could still be more likely in the offseason than at the trade deadline. "Now that Kyrie has been traded, maybe the Nets' position on not trading Durant as it really was kind of last summer may change," said Brian Windhorst. "That is an interesting development that has happened over the last 48 hours since the Kyrie trade from people that I've talked to." When Durant requested a trade last offseason, he had the Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat atop his list. The Memphis Grizzlies, Toronto Raptors and New Orleans Pelicans were three other franchises widely considered as having the necessary assets to trade for Durant. Durant has three more seasons remaining on his contract with the Nets. What Durant is thinking about his situation is one of the biggest questions in the league that remains largely unknown.
