She was 86. Sanford was best known for playing Louise "Weezie" Jefferson on the long-running sitcom "The Jeffersons." She also played Tillie, the maid to Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn's Matt and Christina Drayton, in "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" (1967). Her manager says she died of natural causes. Earlier this year, Sanford was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Bummer. She was great on that show, a perfect counterbalance to Sherman Helmsley's rants. You will be missed.
she was amazing on that show...perfect for that role. i'm sure she'll be missed by family, friends and fans. but we should all be so fortunate to live 86 years in a craft we love. sorry to see her go, nonetheless.
It was probably about 3 weeks ago when I was looking her up on the Internet Movie Database site. She was like 20 years older than Sherman Hemsley, but she didn't look it on the Jeffersons. Very great comedian...RIP +++
She was hilarious and made me laugh out loud many times. Her voice will always be in-grained into my brain. She was a pioneer of black sitcoms. RIP
I guess you could say she is moving on up to a delux apartment in the sky. Speaking of The Jeffersons, how many of you knew that the woman in the interracial couple next to the Jeffersons is the real life mother of Lenny Kravitz? She died awhile back too.
I remember hearing about that when Kravitz was first really hitting it big. I was a fan of The Jeffersons. RIP Weezie.
Yes and Lenny's father was white so she definitely had experience in playing a wife of an interracial couple.
