2022: Had the poorest midterm showing of any party not in power in the last 60 years. The candidates he backed, in competitive races, lost bigly. In fact Trump backed candidates lost many races they were expected to win.

Trump is basically the GOP. A bit late for the Wall Street Journal and the vast majority of the GOP elected national officials to start denouncing him.

 

Only 5 presidents have won the office without winning the popular vote, so it means a candidate has about a 10% chance of winning without the popular vote. They could just be pointing out that it adds to the difficulty in him getting reelected, especially if he splits the GOP vote.

It'll be interesting to see how bad the Trump Delusion Syndrome really is. They're so out of touch with reality that Trump turns moderates and independents into Democrat voters.
