Kid finished the job. Unbelievable. His confidence will be on cloud nine which bodes very well for a magnificent career. We are set.
I think it's safe to say: the player Pena replaced could not have done better this postseason run. Congratulations Pena to a remarkable rookie season.
Wanting a long term contract after being systematically underpaid for years isn’t exactly mercenary in my book.
That's why I said many, not all. Now whether being paid millions is considered underpaid or not after investing millions in development make one underpaid is a matter of perspective.
Peña’s quote after winning mvp showed truly amazing character and maturity for a guy his age. Almost as impressed by that as I have been his play on the field.
Players under team control are underpaid relative to their value even if some of them make a lot of money through arbitration. If that wasn’t the case, owners wouldn’t be fighting so hard to keep players under team control.
Pena only committed one defensive error for the entire 2022 postseason run. (game 2 of the WS) Pena did not GiDP ONCE for the entire 2022 postseason run. Probably one of the greatest rookie season for an infield player. I honestly don't know how Pena is going to top his 2022 season.
Easy, if his adjustment of removing the leg kick and quickening up his swing holds from last august into next season, he could easily crank out a 125 OPS+ year with GG defense, and churn out a high-level all star/down ballot MVP year.
