That Manchin has been making money from coal while his state has consistently been one of the worst economically performing states for the past decades. Manchin keeps getting rich from coal while W. Virginians keep falling behind.

It seems like what Manchin (and the GOP) are really offering.... is just more of that "back in the day talk" that just keeps hollowing regions because they are too entitled to adapt and learn something new.

Coal is dead and should be. Do you appreciate a president being honest?

Do you use coal in New York? Should you?

I actually miss the "personal responsibility" façade of the conservative party pre 2016.

    I don't live in NY.

but how do you think most electricity is generated?

and what effect would shutting down coal plants have on the good people of WV whom Manchin represents?

and, to the point of the thread, what sort of lesson is Manchin referencing?

do you think it's dead in WV?

perhaps all the coal miners could just learn to code?

It should be, it's extremely dirty, there is enough natural gas for everyone. Do you think global warming is important?

Exactly, there is more being used than I thought but we are moving away from coal. West Virginians are better focusing on preparing for the aftermath

WV growth is coming from natural gas. Some coal miners should learn to code, learn to install HVAC, learn to drive freight, learn to work for nat gas producers, or just learn to do something more relevant instead of being stuck in nostalgia.

I wake up every morning and eat a bowl of coal with a tall glass of cigarettes like a real man.

what effect on the US economy would you expect shutting down 20% of electricity production would have?

The only reason there are so many coal plants is because of how it used to be. Just in the last 8 years electricity generated from coal has decreased from 39% to 22%.

You and Manchin are living in the past

I'm certainly not above criticizing democrats and the Biden administration, as I think they really missed an opportunity this midterm to do a slight pivot on energy and be more pragmatic. Would have certainly appealed more to the masses to make the argument that it's not only in our national security interests but we have the ability to produce more domestic energy in a less polluting way than places like the Middle East, Russia, and Africa.
