Also Max, I understand that moving Bagwell would be a tricky situation that would probably require the Astros to pay for some of his salary, but if we could get a great prospect as compensation it may be worth it. It is known that Bagwell has contemplated moving to the American League where he can take on the DH role, which in reality may be the best situation for both Bagwell and the Astros.
my bet is that bagwell retires after this season. that's part of why i don't think you'll get any takers for him.
We'll have to wait and see. Untill that day comes, the American League is still a serious possiblity.
Speaking of rebuilding, has anyone noticed that Willy Tavares has been playing in left field instead of in center.
Sadly, thats the gut feeling I have too. I am sure this season has been hard on him. I think he has too much personal pride to go into next season knowing that his shoulder has 162 more games to go through. IMO, Hunsickers acquisition of Beltran and his quote about this being, basically, this groups last shot, may tell us that he too thinks Bagwell might not be back.
Even though Bagwell has alot of pride and is unselfish, I doubt he is going to give up all that money he is due.
I can't remember the last time I saw him pitch, must've been a good while back.' But, what was his fastball averaging before the injury, what was it's usual speed originally?
originally, it was a pretty consistent 91-94mph (but it popped like it was 96mph). i'm going to guess that he'll get it back to about 90-92mph when he's completely back. i have my doubts that he'll be a reliable 2nd or 3rd man in a major league rotation next year. it's taking so much longer than everyone expected.. he still doesn't have that pop in his 4-seamer like he used to. it seems like he's had to almost change his approach into being a finesse style pitcher. he's no where near as aggressive as you remember seeing him two years back.
killtaker --- i've heard hunsicker say more than a couple of times that hernandez has had to change his style entirely.
