Yep, terrible trade. The result of the Gomez/Fiers trade was two terrible players, cost Luhnow and AJ their jobs, certainly would have been nice to have Hader the last 5 years, lost draft picks, destroyed the teams and Altuve’s reputation nationally, and could possibly hurt Altuve if the HOF ever becomes an option for him. Worst trade ever…all aspects have to be evaluated when talking about trades, it is not just the players.
I may not be a medical doctor but I do know how to use the law and I can sue the **** out anybody using any law. this one would be a piece of cake. Ask your insurance carrier.
I know Morgan was a hall of famer but I don't know if he moves the needle much on those Astros teams. I think if we kept Hader we have at least 1 more WS (2019) and maybe more.
Back in the old days, if Popeye made this post, the board would explode with thoughts of acquiring player(s) from the Orioles, Blue Jays or Cardinals.
I'm not going to go back and forth with you. If you want to believe that trade was worse then trading away a HOFer, a not one but TWO time MVP and one of the greatest 2nd baseman to ever play the game. Then have at it. Good grief!!
This is my new favorite post ever. It is perfect aggressive, self-confident ignorance. America distilled into a few short lines.
I'm not sure we win in 2019 with Hader, considering he ALSO gave up two back breaking runs in the top of the 9th in an elimination game to the Nats.
https://nypost.com/2022/07/28/angels-entertaining-possible-shohei-ohtani-blockbuster/ Teams are calling regarding a potential trade for Angels two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani, and while a trade involving the unique superstar is seen as very unlikely, the Angels are for perhaps the first time not hanging up the phone. The Angels are telling teams they need to listen on everyone following the surprise collapse of their team off a very strong start that had them in first place in May. That doesn’t mean all-time great Mike Trout has a chance to be moved, as he has a no-trade clause, is currently battling a back issue and is playing under a long-term deal. A trade involving Ohtani might be only slightly more likely than Trout, considering longtime Angels owner Arte Moreno loves his biggest stars and seems to be more involved than most owners. Two executives calling on Ohtani expressed doubt that the Angels would pull the trigger on such a mega-deal based on the history of the team and the owner. While the Angels’ most likely sell pieces are starter Noah Syndergaard, closer Raisel Iglesias and relievers Ryan Tepera and Aaron Loup, they are engaging when rival executives mention Ohtani. This won’t be easy, as it would involve a massive haul back (plus ownership approval) in the five days left before the Aug. 2 trade deadline. No surprise, word is it would take something absolutely eye-popping for the Angels to even seriously consider dealing Ohtani. The 2021 MVP is back in that race again as he combines tremendous pitching and hitting exploits.
It wasn’t trading Fiers that cost Lunhow and Hinch their jobs. It was leaving him off the playoff roster.
There is a lot of that as well. It's pretty hard to judge breakout guys like that. If anyone could consistently, they would be the best GM in baseball.
Just read Padres are being active for bullpen help and hitters... Maybe we solve 1B without giving up much? What about: To Padres: Josh Bell Hector Neris To Nationals: Padres prospects To Astros: Eric Hosmer with 20 million of his remaining 39 million covered? That gives us .277/.339/.730 at 1B with good defense for 19 million over 3 seasons? 6.5 million a year is low enough he could be a reserve in 2023 if something better comes along.... Padres pick up Neris with the savings from Houston eating half of Hosmer's deal. Bell is an upgrade for them. Hosmer is a cheap upgrade for us. He could also platoon with Yuli....
To Cardinals Jake Odorizzi To Padres Hector Neris Josh Bell To Nationals: CJ Abrams To Pirates: Hunter Brown Jake Meyers Enmanuel Valdez To Astros: Zack Thompson Eric Hosmer (w/ cash) Bryan Reynolds From Astros: Hector Neris Jake Meyers Jake Odorizzi Hunter Brown Enmanuel Valdez Yuli, Hosmer, and Yordan rotate DH waiting on Brantley. By playoffs: 2B Altuve CF Reynolds DH Alvarez 3B Bregman RF Tucker LF Brantley SS Pena 1B Hosmer/Gurriel C Maldonado Thompson as a lefty replaces the right Neris in the pen. Not the sexiest moves, but i think it's realistic...
