I turned off my pool pump and am running the A/C at 82 degrees with a Lasko Cyclone fan blowing on me. I give back my power to the grid! Hand in hand we live together Ginger or not, it's all the same. Black or white, brown or red We shouldn't kill each other cause that is lame. Hand in hand we can live together We shouldn't kill each other cause we're all the same.
They probably don't have air conditioning though. I lived in Boston for a year and didn't have AC in the house. It was awful during heatwaves (upper 80s, low 90s) in the summer. Most of the summer was gorgeous though. Winter really really sucks though. Snow was cool for about 12 hours while it was white and puffy. Then it becomes grimey and gross for the next 3 months.
AC and "amber extreme heat" alerts for 88 degrees? Turn a fan on! I get if it's in the upper 90s or 100s. People in the tropics and around the equator are looking at these people like they're nuts. In a sense, I think it's what people are used to that matters. If you allow your body to adjust, you'll probably be ok up to a point. Like even with the AC on and set to 78, my geek room gets up to around 83 degrees because of the computer equipment/tv during the warmest part of the day when it's around 100-103 degrees outside. I just turn the fan on and I feel comfortable. Millions of people around the world have no AC and live in climates similar to Houston/Louisiana in the summer and somehow do ok. I'd probably suffer in those places - at least initially. It reminds me of the time I went to Long Beach for the NBA summer league and people in a Subway were talking about the heat wave there and it hadn't even hit 90 yet.
Hah you're totally right on people are just used to what they grow up with. I went to Alaska last year in June for vacation. It was during a huge heatwave in Alaska. The high was around 70F . The locals thought it was unbearably hot. We went on an tour and the tour guide was shirtless because it so hot and there was a couple from Arizona that wore long sleeves. Though it was probably more for the mosquitos than cold. Alaskan mosquitos don't mess around.
