TyTy's Combine measurements confirmed what many scouts saw on film: a shorter combo guard (6'2.25 without shoes) who is a step slow (even pre-ankle injury). I'm guessing that pushed him to the bottom of the first round. Seeing him at summer league, Washington looks like he's taking care of his body. This doesn't look like an ongoing issue. However, Nix seems to have more of a battle on his hands. At the same time, Nix does flash some surprising natural athleticism. See this clip against Orlando: This is the sort of play we expect from the 6'5 Christopher or 6'6 KMJ. That Nix can convert this sort of putback is a plus in his favor. But what we need is for Nix and TyTy need to find ways to set up teammates. Expect turnovers and block shots galore if our PGs (or Christopher) drive full speed into the paint against OKC. If there was ever a moment to keep your dribble alive (ala Steve Nash), it's when you're playing the Thunder. The Josh Giddey vs Nix/Christopher is a complete mismatch. Athletically, both Rockets are quick enough and maybe strong enough to stay in front of him. But Giddey operates on a different plane as a PG. Maybe seeing a facilitator can inspire some more creative play.
what an acrobatics to justify silas/stone incompetence this is not the case of "sometimes it just doesn't work out." you didnt even took the chances and tried and you still lost the pick... silas should of played him while he could.... while he was healthy last year...he could have played him 40 full nba games.... this way they ruined the pick ... and for what? to keep danuel house warm for jazz, thies warm for celtics ,dj augustine warm for lakers...etc this is why tanking doesnt work.... tanking teams tank why? because they are too stupid to do smart things...and it doesnt help them much they are rewarded for their incompetence with the picks because stupid franchises ruin good players and good picks...they dont know how to develop and raise players....this is why they started tanking in the first place... and this is called circle of incompetence.... youve got the MVP of 3rd best european league and you play him 6 minutes a night? STUPID is not a word strong enough do describe the crazyness
Don't follow. Playing garuba would have been anti tanking? Garuba would have gotten Augustine and house minutes ?
how is this guy always injured? he's not even 20 yet! On top of that he always looks lost on the court.
Some people are just built in a way that is injury prone. It can be temporary if they find a way to prevent it with strength/conditioning. but for some it isn't. He is still very young and figuring out his body. The board is being too hard on him way too quickly. It not like the Rockets are even close to their window right now. They have time to be patient.
We have time to be patient but it's important to recognize our rebuilding strategy is unique: we drafted 7 first rounders in 2 summers, and there's 3-4 young players too. There are way more competitors for his spot here than anywhere else, he better get his sh*t together soon. Being injured is no excuse for a 20 year old to be out of shape, especially when there's a professional team supporting.
Garuba is the most frustrating Rocket on the team for me. I keep lowering expectations and he keep defying that
