Biggest problem is that you're now paying supermax for KAT and now you're also paying max for Gobert. Part of the rationale for paying supermax for KAT is - non switchable warts and all - he can play center. Now you added another non switchable C to play next to him, at max $$$, who gets run off the floor by small ball in April and May. And you gave up your entire draft for the rest of the decade to do so. That's just ****ed up. Edwards trade coming up next.
Anyone who thinks Wolves are good has insanely low basement bottom basketball IQ. 3 fully unprotected pick + 1 top 5 protected pick into 2029 from a franchise like the Wolves is basically the ultimate in overpay. You should be trading packages like that for prime Harden or at least Durant this year. Rudy Gobert has shown that he is unplayable in the playoffs. Karl Towns Anthony is one of the soft mental midgets in the whole league. Wolves are the worst run franchise in this league had the Kangz not existed. This is literally the worst trade I've seen in my life. Utah dumped an end of career, overrated center and sold him as a top 5 MVP superstar onto the biggest and dumbest suckers in Minnesota.
In an environment with a rising cap…. Like I said, not putting protections was the biggest mistake so they can’t add talent through the draft. Gobert can switch but he can’t be the entire defense. Claiming his is unplayable in the playoffs is just silly. I think it’s way too premature to say that Edward is leaving as he has become the face of the franchise.
Joke of a franchise. We clown the Knicks and Kings but the TWolves might be worse. I understand maybe they can’t attract FAs but if you’re going all in on a trade don’t do it for a guy who can’t even play in the playoffs.
Good luck running out that lineup when teams go small which literally every team does in the playoffs.
Also worth noting the Wolves other move was to add Kyle Slo Mo Anderson - a guy who' almost exclusively plays PF or small ball C
So then you have KAT at the 5 plus Kyle Anderson and Jaden McDaniels as your defensive players on the wings. Wolves have their own small ball lineup with the one of the best shooting big men in the league. Deangelo Russel is an expiring this year so they’ll have space to bring in someone else next season. The sin was not putting protections on the picks. That was the really stupid part. I don’t think the Wolves are contenders but they are a franchise they is just happy making the playoffs and getting to a second round here there.
cliff notes from an Athletic article that was posted on the Wolves Reddit page Wolves believed they had hit a wall with the roster and wouldnt get much better without a big swing They did not believe any player would be able to fix the rebounding/rim protection effectively for a small package. So swung for the fences The defensive potential of Edwards and McDaniels is seen as something different to what Gobert had in Utah. Could allow him to thrive even further Gobert was open to joining KAT in Minnesota and expressed excitement before the trade occured An expected Edwards explosion + resurgent KAT + Gobert is seen as a winning combo KAT signed off on the trade beforehand. He is very excited Lore/A Rod encouraged Connelly to be bold in signing a big name The initial package wanted by the Jazz was McDaniels, 4 firsts and swaps + 2nds Connelly almost immediately became interested in Gobert when he took the job As well as Turner and Capela, The Wolves had talks with the Nets over Durant. But balked when they asked for an allstar in return as well as a mountain of picks (Ant or KAT) Glen Taylor is all in on the deal. He wants to see a winner before he leaves the team The Wolves saw the way the West was shaping up and decided it was now or never. They needed to get big and they needed to win immediately or get lost in the shuffle
From time to time, we see teams gamble and eventually lose in all-in trades, but there are usually reasonable logic behind them at the time, and only time will tell the winners. Very rarely do trades got immediately and universally decried as "the worst of all time" like this one. The only other time I felt this way ever was the Garnett/Pierce to Nets trade. How did Danny Ainge manage to do this, and twice...
Man, what a terrible trade for Minnesota. KAT had better be playing at an MVP level after this. And I know it was a very trivial part of the trade, but I'm surprised the Wolves let go of Patrick Beverley. I thought they were saying he had put the heart back into their team last season. Kind of cold. More fuel (and tears) for Bev when Utah faces off against Minny in the playoffs, I guess.
Kyle Anderson spent about 30% of his minutes at C and the other 60-70 at PF the last 2 years . There will be a point in the season next year when people point out that the KAT only lineups have a higher net rating than the RudyKat lineups and the neither with Kyle Anderson at C lineups have the highest net rating of all.
I'm no NBA cap-ologist, but I have no idea why Minny didn't at least try for Ayton, despite him being a RFA. Dude is younger than Gobert by 7 years, which means he can grow alongside Ant and KAT. Dude is a more well-rounded player than Gobert. And perhaps most importantly, I bet he wouldn't require all those first round picks + players, to get.
I believe Ayton wants more of a role while Gobert needs limited touches. Apparently KAT signed off on Gobert, not sure if he'd sign off on Ayton.

Thanks, not sure how I missed that on bball reference. Seems like he's played everywhere but guard. I would imagine he plays more PF or SF on the Wolves based on the roster.
Anderson is a secondary ball hander and ball distributor which is what the grizzlies used him for, and he is one of the best defenders in the league and with Josh, they are going to have probably a top 5 defense to go with Kat and Edwards. also, in my opinion kat is the best big man in the game, the dude is a matchup nightmare. The wolves are a scary team, and I think they are better than the suns at this point.
