They just drafted the 3 and 4 of the future. If it's a long term deal, it better be in a bench role. For what he brings, and what he does not, hope it's not for the full MLE.

His defense is the only reason why I think he should be retained. I admit he regressed with his ball hogging. He needs to stop that.

If Tate stops ball hogging and gets better from 3, he’s extremely valuable. Idc about KMJ, he can go.

But does he know he’s a glue guy?

i value Tate, but we need him to not want to be a focal point.

There's gotta be some wink wink deal that he signs for a lower yearly figure for 3 or 4 years. This way Tate gets way more money next year but the same overall money that they think he would get if he signed a deal next year. Also, and maybe more importantly, it would be a more tradeable deal.

I get the feeling this isn't something KPJ would be interested in since he probably sees next year as an opportunity to increase his value. He's younger and developing while Tate is mostly a finished product.

    If I understand it correctly…

By declining the option on next year, Tate will become a restricted free agent this year. Teams will be able to make offers to him, but no team can offer more than $10.3m per year (MLE).

Since the Rockets would be willing to extend him at that amount, they will let teams make offers and whatever deal Tate signs, they will match. Or they will take the best offer and agree to a deal slightly higher.

I’m sure someone will take delight in pointing out if this is incorrect.

    tate with a 40% 3-ball is a $20 million/year player.

i like this move. increases his salary for trading purposes this season. that's needed with Wall's contract gone and Ego soon to be gone. and it leaves his contract with a lower cap hit going forward.

    I like Tate.

Plays hard and I heard he has been working really hard on his 3 ball with positive results.

I want Bari and Tari to start together with the rest of the offensive minded starters. Don't make the same mistake with Tari that happened with Alpy. There's no Wood to be in front of Tari to justify barely playing him. With that mind, idc what you do with Tate and KJ.

Tate's awesome. There are too many haters on this board. On a reasonable extension, he's obviously valuable.

As long as whatever contract he gets is tradable (as in low enough that there would be suitors at that price)...I'm ok with it.
