I saw my daughter (5) playing with an iPad app today, figuring out which country is where, etc., and she was very enthusiastic about it.

I remember that I knew all the countries in the world and their capitals at a similar age, from an atlas I was given as a kid.

So I went ahead and bought this globe:

    https://columbus-globus-shop.de/sho...globe-columbus-duo-oe-40-cm/16-inch-ball?c=30

It comes with an audio/video pen that helps to discover facts and infos about countries and places in a playful way.

    Old video:

That reminded me that I had a friend who had a globe that was like...as tall as I am. Doing my research now, I realized that that thing must have been close to $ 100k worth. Never knew these things were so expensive.

Anyone else have a globe? Any recommendations?

I seem to recall a globe in my childhood. But, I think it was mostly at school and it seemed like there was one in every classroom. I don't recall ever owning one outside of school but I probably did. But, every kid should have one. There are way too many older people who don't know where most countries are. It's embarrassing.

I remember loving to look at a globe when I was a kid. The fact that I was born in Germany and had lived in a couple states it was fascinating stuff.

I distinctly remember as a kid, looking at the specific area, for some reason, where I ended up living today, which is halfways across the country. That area drew me to it when I looked at a globe.

They make those as liquor cabinets. Fun for the whole family.

had one of those that lit up as a kid. but it's probably outdated with countries like czechoslovakia. it's good for perspective of how far away and big a country is. but i think google earth is a game changer.

on a related note, i got a beat down because I'd spin it too hard and it broke. now i don't like globes cus ptsd

That’s pretty cool and a nice educational item for kids.

…it would last about 15 minutes with my boys - they would spin it so hard it would pop off the mount, then they would kick it around and finally sit on it. I can see it in my mind’s eye like it’s happening right now.

I bought a planet, Pluto, and then it got relegated. So it was more less like drafting a relief pitcher. You just never know. It wasn't worth the trouble.

This game is fun until it’s an African country that isn’t South Africa
