Lovie Smith is the candidate we always dreamed about when the position came open! Have the Super Bowl odds been updated? Hopefully it is not too late for me to capitalize financially on this game changer.
This is the last semi-attractive chick left in the bar when the lights come on at closing time. Not awful but not great either
Just wish the out of nowhere hires, signings, etc. the Texans make were exciting. They always try to do something that no other team was interested in doing. And then they drag out the process and give people false hope.
Some of y'all will regret not giving McCown a chance. I'm not siked about Lovie .. but I'm ok with it. The talking heads like Stephen A were all ready to give their spiel about how the Texans are to blame for disproportional hiring of minorities .. and I'm glad they won't get their chance. On to the Draft and Fire Easterby.
It's honestly puzzling how hard SAS has gone after the Texans for this when they've had more black coaches in the past 3 years than entire organizations. My guess is SAS will still complain about it. My issue is I think there were better black head coaches out there to be hired. It's whatever though, I do wish him the best but I expect another terrible season. At least he has a ton of experience I guess.
huh Well, that's an interesting direction. Hopefully we get some legit coordinators and not just pawns of the FO otherwise this is just musical chairs. I get that the players like Smith, but I didn't see this coming. Maybe I should have seen it coming with Flores essentially off the table.
He goes after the Texans because he (and many others) think the Texans are hiring TOKEN black guys that they don't expect to keep around. Basically they are in a horrible situation and running a gauntlet of losing seasons so they are hiring black guys for good PR when everyone knows they will hire a white guy they like when it's time to be good again.
I think this would be a wrong assumption to make for the Texans. At least they give guys a chance unless they too are paying these coaches to lose games. There are several teams that haven't even had a black coach so it seems silly to get on the Texans for this particular issue. Also, if they were just ready to hire McCown as most people thought then wouldn't that destroy the narrative of them just hiring a black coach for a bad season? It's not like there is any chance the Texans are good next year. It feels like the Texans are in a no win situation, they are always going to be bad for the 2022-23 season after all. I think you can say whatever you want about the Texans being a poorly run franchise but I don't think they are hiring black coaches as token hires. I mean for the longest they've had a black GM that was extremely mediocre and IIRC only lost his job due to health. I don't even believe Culley was a token hire, I think he was a desperate attempt to get Watson back in the fold, if they wanted to token hire a black coach why does it have to be Culley who some people will look at and go "He's black?"
If there’s one thing you can say about the Texans it’s when they got their eye their man they go get the guy 8 spots down on the list. Well done boys.
