Yeah, I agree, if you are looking at him as a player, 19, is just way to early to come to any conclusion about him, just enjoy the improvement. If you consider we drafted him as a number 2 pick - then it gets squishy for me, but maybe the nature of picks has changed and kids are just not ready and timelines for development are just elongated now. DD
I don't think many 19 year olds even eventual stars were that successful at 19. I mean the first guy to pop in my head is Kobe. At 19 he had 1 year of NBa experience already and still had a low scoring average and low efficiency.
Such a weird cycle. "Green didn't play well" "Yes he did" "No he didn't, here's evidence he didn't play well" "He's young so it's okay that he didn't play well" "So then you agree he didn't play well" "No, he played well, you're just a hater" "This shows him not playing well" "But he's young, so it's okay that he didn't play well" "So you agree then that he didn't play well?" "No, he played well, it was just everyone else was holding him down and you're a hater for not understanding that" I honestly can't wait till we get another top pick in the next draft, I'm hoping for a fanbase every bit as toxic as Green's so we can sit back and watch them devour one another.
Oh, I've had that conversation numerous times with Green fanbois here. At this point, I might as well just do both sides of the conversation myself.
He was so good so fast, and big things were expected then he just dropped off into nothingness......I have never seen that happen to a player since.... DD
He had some serious GI health issues and needed his colon removed from what I remember, never the same after that. He was the kid known for scoring 100 pts in a high school game.
It's of course still too early to draw any conclusions yet, but I have to point out that the difference in stats between Green and Tatum on this table is massive. Pay attention to the FGA...
Yes....and take a look at Michael Jordan's FGA's as he entered the league at age 21: 19.8 (FGA's)....Jalen 13.9 FGA's at age 19 but the season is still young age 22: 18.2 (FGA"s) Age 23: 27.8 FGA's Of course "dunking more" helped bring FG% up. ______________________ On another note Ast%: Kevin Porter jr: 25.5% Suggs: 20.2% Davion Mitchell: 20.1% Jared Butler: 18.3% Cade Cunningham: 16.9% Jalen Green: 14.4% Scottie Barnes: 12.5% Evan Mobley: 11.7%
LOL, you had to know I'd laugh at you for that pathetic attempt to deflect from the current discussion. The fact that I said a mean thing once upon a time has nothing at all to do with discussing our new highly toxic player only fans and how it will be funny to see them clash with a potential new crop of highly toxic player only fans if we get another top pick next season.
I think by next year the Green fanbois will switch their allegiance to the new shiny pick. Plus their teenager/rookie argument won't hold water, so they'll pretend they were objective from the beginning -- saying things like that they were nuanced -- admitting he had "stuff to work on still" while comparing him to MJ and Kobe.
Fanbois? Are you serious right now? So supporting the rookie your favorite team drafted is being a fanboy? Do yourself a favor and stop being a fan of any sports teams if that bothers you. Give me a break
Some fun facts for people to consider, touches per game. Rockets - Touches per game KPJ: 71.1 Wood: 60.6 Green: 48.2 We can actually look at some of the other rookies for comparison Scottie Barnes: 63.9 Cade Cunningham: 65 Evan Mobley: 56.4 Jalen Suggs: 61.8 Josh Giddey: 68.7 Jalen Green is pretty far behind other rookies in terms of touches. Something also interesting, although it doesn't mean much at this stage because a player that passes a lot will have much lower points per touch (especially if they have a lot of touches). Points per touch (ranked highest to lowest). Green: 0.300 Wood: 0.292 Mobley: 0.270 Barnes: 0.260 Cunningham: 0.194 Suggs: 0.187 KPJ: 0.180 Giddey: 0.143
Zach Lavine didn't leave the Wolves. He was traded for Jimmy Butler along with Kris Dunn and a #7 pick. The Wolves had just given up on him.
Props to OP for not falling into the Amazon Prime style of fandom and having a little patience and vision. Good on you.
DeJuan Wagner was an incredible talent who got drafted to Cleveland at #6 in the Yao draft (2002). He averaged something like 35 points a game from his freshmen year in highschool on and even had a game where he scored 100 points. But there was a problem. He hadn't had access to real medical care and it turned out he had Ulcerative Colitis. He had been self-medicating with mar1juana to manage the pain. So his first year with Cleveland he got real doctors and his situation was so bad he had to have his entire colon and rectum removed and get a permanent colostomy bag. No surprise he didn't make it after that. Treatments have come a long way since then and now Larry Nance Jr plays with the same illness. But as someone with Crohn's Disease, which is kind of the sister disease to Ulcerative Colitis, I have always found it inspiring that an actual child suffering from that debilitating illness was averaging 35 and even dropping 100 on elite high school competition. Sad story, man. Who knows what he could have been if poor people had access to healthcare in our country.
