I was just curious to see who all is planning on going to the super regional in Austin this weekend? I haven't been to that park before so just a few quick questions.. 1) much better to get reserved seats than general admission? 2) is there a good place to park around the stadium? My thoughts on the actual games. Texas is the superior team as shown throughout the year, but it is a short series. Friday we have the top lefty in the nation going (Jeremy Sowers, top 10 pick probably on monday.. first round for sure), and the saturday starter (Ryan Mullins) some actually like more than the friday starter. If those two can pitch late in the game we might have a chance to do something. Sowers has the stuff to shut down any team in the country when he is on. If those two aren't able to pitch late into the game.. it could get ugly. In the end Texas is the superior team this season, but anything can happen in a short series. Being that this is the first ncaa playoffs since 1980 and first super regional ever I couldn't be happier. Tim Corbin was the assistant at Clemson until last year and when he came over here has really turned the program around. Good luck to the 'horns as well. If we aren't able to advance it will at least be good that a Texas team did.
Good luck on parking, there will be very little available. The best thing I can advise is you go past the disch on MLK(the disch is where you see a big nextel sign out front, it's easily recognizable) and park in the street or on a side street and walk back. That will be your best bet. Here is a map where the disch is, so you can see what I'm saying. http://www.utexas.edu/maps/ As far as tickets, Texas baseball has a very big following on campus(expect them to use their allotment) so l'd probably check if you can get them through vandy, then go to ticketcity.com, and other sites like that in case. I checked, and general admission per each game is 30 bucks it seems so if it goes 3 games you are looking at 90 bucks if you go through ticketcity. Of course, the all session passes are reserved for students like myself through the university. Your other option is scalping, which there will be no shortage of, trust me. I'd recommend getting them beforehand though. Hope this helps.
DVauthrin. ah someone had given me the link to the texas box office where you can get the sessions and I didn't realize that it was for students only... thanks for the help ,,,I guess I will check vandy first... then maybe check with a player and see if they can hook me up.
Any word on how student tickets go? I still have my old UT ID, which I used all season to get into the basketball games. Will I be able to walk up to the gate with my old ID and get a ticket?
I just paid 28 a piece for session passes on that site I referred to. It didnt' say anything about needing to be a student so.. Should be fun weekend
Student tickets went on sale today at 8 am baqui, but I am on texasboxoffice.com, and you can get a weekend pass for 28 bucks or 20 bucks general admission still. As for UT checking ID's, unless it looks different(style wise) than the ones we have now, I'd expect them to let you in. Rocket Fan, I apologize for giving out wrong advice. I figured UT would use all their tickets for their own fans/students, but I should've figured they were the provider for Vandy fans as well being the host and all. Again I apologize. Anyways, I hope my parking suggestion helps, and you should see a long line of cars where I suggested you might be able to park(I've done it before myself).
DVauthrin - Not a problem, I just wasn't sure if that texasboxoffice place was the actual university selling them or not but apparently it is.. I went ahead and got tickets. Thanks for the parking advice. I'll give that a try. Some people have Sowers being picked at 7 by the Reds. They drafted him in the first round out of high school and he turned down the cash to go to college. He was in one of my classes and seems to be very smart guy. He is likely to go pro, but if the Reds draft him I think it would be hillarious if he tells them no again. They already wasted one first rounder on him.. be very funny if they wasted two!
Cool, did the map that I posted help any? UT is downright horrible for parking so I'm happy to pass any help/advice I can.
I don't get it. They're selling tickets to students? I've always just flashed by ID at the gate and walked in. I guess the sports package doesn't cover postseason games, correct? I remember skipping many an afternoon physics class to watch us play at the Disch. Also, my ID's totally up to date since I got a new one made a week before graduation (December 2002).
Does the LASP include post-season events? No. The LASP does not cover any post-season, Big 12, or NCAA events. However, small allotments of tickets for post-season events are available for purchase by LASP holders. For other sports in which away game or post-season tickets are available to LASP holders, seats will be sold on a first come, first served basis or a lottery will be held for available seats. That is from this link: http://texassports.com/ticket_info/tickets/lasp/index.html There are still tickets going on sale at texasboxoffice.com, $28 for all session reserved, $20 for all session general admission.
DVauthrin - yeah the map helped. I'll probably print that out since I haven't really driven around the UT campus. Parking is bad at vandy, that's why I asked. Colleges don't tend to have great parking. I'll probably get there early so I can have a better shot at finding a place to park. (On second note about the Sowers guy, maybe it would be good if he went to play for the reds. I had forgotten that the reds AAA team moved to Louisville which is his home team. I know someone that pitched for those great Brenhem teams in the late 80's early 90's and when he was witih cincy AAA was at Indy not louisville)
Btw, baqui, here is more info if you just want an individual game ticket. http://ev7.evenue.net/cgi-bin/ncomm...nkID=tex-ath&shopperContext=&caller=&appCode=
Rocket Fan, if you can't find any parking on the side streets of Disch, go on campus and park. There are tons of small parking lots that not too many people know about (unless you work and park there) that you could be able to park in especially on the weekends. This will mean a longer walk to and from, but I've never had to pay for parking for an athletic event at UT. Just be incredibly aware of parking signs and restrictions - the parking nazis work 24/7 and they will write tickets!
meggoleggo .. thanks for the advice, I'll try that if there aren't any on the side streets... . good ole college parking tickets
Rocket Fan, I think you should be fine even if you get a ticket. You live in Nashville, right? Who cares if you never pay the ticket?
rocketfan95.. I live in Nashville during the school year.. Houston the rest of the time... I don't know.. the vanderbilt police are REAL police, not sure about UT.. always wondered how it worked at a school. Sure if you are a student there and then they see you again you might get towed, but I dont know if they can actually report it to real courts etc or not. Hmm, Sowers just went at number 6 overall to cleveland. Didn't know if he'd be able to get in front of wade townsend or not, but he snuck in there. Now let's just see if he can pitch a complete game vs UT.. he pitched into the 10th inning vs LSU a few weeks back.. I dont think i'd ever seen a pitcher pitch over 9 innings..
UTPD is by far, NOT a real police department. They are the epitome of overglorified security guards. They write parking tickets, trespassing tickets, and annoy the crap out of you when you're on campus late at night "looking suspicious" but you're really not. The ticket that UTPD will give you is purely for the university. But it says on the fine print that if you are a student at UT and you don't pay them in so many days, it goes on your list of university charges. I don't know what they do for non-students.
