Those picks never had any value, and if you thought they did, then you're part of the reason people think Rockets fans are morons. Expected value is real, and if you don't understand what it means, then for the love of God, shut up and read a book.
Ah, so you're bad at assessing scenarios more than 18 months out as well? Upper management material right here folks.
Who thinks Rocket fans are morons? Sounds like that's something you deal with personally? Don't project your insecurities on the rest of us, please.
This was expected. But this has been a very good off-season for Brooklyn. They got better which is scary. Barring health they should win.
You’re right. They should be the favorite. This playoffs showed though that Father Time is always always undefeated. Younger players are starting to take over and Durant and Harden are not young anymore and the injury chances will only keep increasing at this point. I believe some of these picks will still be very good down the road.
In before the: OMG our picks are losing value, terrible trade by Stone lol. As if it was never expected that these guys would extend their contracts.
yea i saw a post in the garm where a veteran poster said that harden was gonna leave and go back to la. Im like why would he leave kd and irving
I think having the big 3 sign these mammoth extensions is the best path for these picks to have max value (top 5 lottery). The gamble has always been on the health and/or effectiveness to go south for these players, not on them leaving. If they leave, they can be replaced with similarly priced talent. Now with the Nets potential cap 100% tied up and the Rockets owning their draft, there will be no avenues to improve. This is exactly how the Nets were burned by the 2013 trade for Garnett/Pierce. They made the playoffs for two years and then cratered for the following 3 years. Not time to panic yet.
the nets were burned in 2013 bc all of them were clearly over the hill. none of these guys are remotely close to that. in fact they're mvp candidates still specifically KD/Harden
While expected, there was a non zero chance one or two would bolt if they had a season from hell. I see Kyrie as the odd man out since Harden and KD have the history. It may turn out the most value in the Nets package was making us bad enough to get top picks.
The picks DID lose value though. Since it happened, the value was lost. If KD had waited until his contract expires to resign, the picks still would have had more value until he did. Like the value of picks changes based on things that happen. The Rocket's pick that OKC owned started off not being worth much and then as chaos ensued its value went up. Even if it was expected to happen, the value lowers when it actually does happen. The Nets are expected to be in the conf.finals this upcoming season but them being expected to be there doesn't mean the picks will forever have that value. If for some reason they have a terrible season the pick for that year then rises in value again. I think this is what we mean when we say the picks lost value.
