I hope Sampson goes after Kyler Edwards and that he would like to come here. Beard is similar to Sampson in a number of ways which includes the passion and defensive mindset for his players. Edwards is a prototypical type UH player, who can excel under this type of team. Him and Sasser would be a solid backcourt combo. I was thinking TJ Shannon was going to stay at least one more year in college and that he could be a possibility but he decided to go to the draft recently. A bit early for him i think. Texas Tech had a number of good players. All transferring or leaving with the departure of Beard.

Sampson is getting experienced guy's (college veterans); fundamentally sound basketball who can compete with more talented squads, especially when 5 star recruits are solely interested in one and done college careers.

    Sampson has reinvigorated Cougar basketball!

Edwards is someone I really would want, but we supposedly are not the favorites to get him.

Between Edwards and Moore they've added two kids who bring it defensively and can stroke the 3!!

Really like the potential of this small lineup:

    Mark
    Sasser
    Edwards
    Moore
    White

Huge addition for UH and a perfect fit for the program. It has been a very successful period to make up for the defections.

He is an absolutely perfect fit.

Wow, Edwards looks like he's going to slot, like, directly into Grimes's old role.

So Coogs still have one slot to offer?

PS: Credit to the OP. I stole that chart/link from a highly informative post that Aware made in this forum on April 7

    That list is wrong!!!

Everyone got a free yr due to covid.

Mark, Shead etc are still FR.
    Sasser is still a Soph
    Etc etc

It isn’t wrong. Players still are considered what they are as far as what year they’re in. The only thing that’s different is they are able to claim an extra year of eligibility later on if they choose to. That’s optional

My bad than. I heard Sampson in a recent interview saying Mark and the other FR would be FR again next year.

Nah. Traditionally, a student-athlete has 5 years to play 4 years of their sport. An extra year means a current college student-athlete would have 6 years to play their 4 years. This means, whoever played this past 2020-21 season, won’t be counted against their years of eligibility depending on their division level specific eligibility rules.

This doesn't change their year to year progress of going from fresh, soph, jr, senior.

So lets just say mark stays here for the next 3 years as a soph, jr, senior. He has the option to compete for one final season, a fifth year senior. But note, most significant players don't really get to that point. They're long gone well before or do not want to risk wasting a year when they pretty much have figured out what they want to do next by the time they're a senior, if they make it that far

Nice addition. It's a patchwork team, but if they are committed to details, we should be good.

Near as I can tell, any Sampson coached team is fun to watch.
