Right that's my point. I said all along if the next head coach built a high end staff I would be on board. I think a guy like Culley can be just fine as a head coach if he staffs well. Doesn't look like that is going to happen.

This poor guy is set up to fail.
At best he maybe a puppet
At worse he is a "SEE WE HIRED A BLACK GUY!!! SATISFIED!!!!" hire.
    Neither bodes we for him.

I get it. If you been in the league 30 yrs
Someone offers you an HC gig.....you take it.

Am I wrong in feeling that he does not have a say in the staff?

The Lovie hire seems like it was happening no matter who was the coach.

Could be, I don't know. That just makes it worse though if it's true.

yeah, feels like the team is that tone deaf.

Need to have a scapegoat. Dude's DOA, Honestly don't see him being a head coach for more than 2 years.

This is by design. It is a reversal of what happened under BoB - where BoB accumulated all of the decision-making power in the organization. Going forward the Texans will be run from the top down by Easterby and Caserio. Culley was hired to be a walkaround coach - a coaching mannequin who will have no say in his staff. Being in Dallas, I've seen this play out with the Cowboys under Jerry and it's worked REALLY well - 25 years and counting since their last Superbowl appearance. 4-10 playoff record since that last Superbowl title. Dallas joins Detroit and Washington as the only teams in the NFC to not make the NFC Championship during that 25 year period. Yea!!! This is the way to go alright!

If we're hiring because of a positive attitude, @Mr.Scarface should be the coach.

Meh. As long as he's going to church and keeping a positive attitude, they'll keep him for at least six years. Then he'll retire.

    Well that's disappointing.

So now we know why we were considering retreads and never-was coaches like Frazier, Culley, and Caldwell. They probably revealed that Watson had requested a trade during interviews with all the coaches, and rightly so, the top names were not interested. The only people willing to take the job were the ones that had no options.

Expect them to try to keep Josh McCown on staff.

If they move Watson in a trade the team will be bad so it will be very easy/convenient to fire Culley in a couple of years.

    This is unbelievably bad

Even a patriot retread like McDaniels would have been better

Tim Kelly will be the next HC of the Texans. This hire is to groom the OC for the HC job.
