on that note since the the Texans are getting villainized and labeled a toxic workplace and "supposedly" nobody wants to come coach here I find it interesting that none of the top HC candidates are signing to the "supposedly" better destinations.
Not worth the wait for Bieniemy imo. You don't know if he'll accept the Texans job, or any other teams' job offer. Then the Texans could miss out on other candidates in the process.
What's so wild is that the Texans are getting grilled for not interviewing Eric Bieniemy when they didn't have a GM, yet the man gets passed over repeatedly for jobs he does interview. Somehow the Texans will be the ones blamed this offseason for the racism that has kept Eric Bieniemy from getting a job. FFS
Think a big factor is that you can't do in-person interviews for teams still in the playoffs so that's virtual only interviews for Daboll and EB. Think Eberflus just completed his first in-person interview yesterday and Arthur Smith is still meeting with the Lions today. Think teams would really like to speak with Daboll but looks like they're gonna have to wait until the Bills are eliminated.
Worth the wait for Daboll? He's one of my top candidates but waiting for another month while other candidates drop off the board will be a slow burn.
I guess that depends on if the other teams with job openings find their guy before Daboll is eligible to be interviewed. But he might find their situations better than Texans'. So waiting for him is a risk as well. But I think I'd still rather get someone now before it's too late. Rather than end up with some retread.
The A-Team on Sports Talk 790 had Aaron Wilson on late last week who said he's been hearing the Bieniemy has had poor interviews with other teams and also insinuated that he's not the guy really responsible for KC's offense. Makes sense somewhat. I mean, he seemed to be the "best" candidate going into the offseason and yet no team has hired him in an era where hiring seem to happen day of an interview.
Funny by doing this, whether legitimately interested or to appease DW4, they have forced themselves into the waiting game. The only way out is if DW4 gives the "okay" on another candidate or Texans brass unilaterally makes the call. Not saying it's a bad thing necessarily because I think they should talk to guys like EB, Daboll, Staley, O'Connell, etc...But they better not panic when the dominos start to fall.
Media has been crushing teams for not hiring him. He may be an amazing coach, I honest to God have no clue, I just think it's stupid that the Texans are going to get crucified for not interviewing him at the start of the process. They haven't interviewed really ANY of the major candidates. They interviewed a couple of old retreads and then a wild card in Brady. Now they are putting in real interview requests it appears. They may well yet blow this hire (likely that they will IMO haha) but it's not about Bieniemy it's about them being a derp franchise.
